Huh... again? Didn't someone do a similar study last year? Are EVE players free guinea pigs for Icelandic psychologists? Is Iceland readying to wage psych-war on Europe? Won't somebody think of the children!!??

(Now seriously, I *think* i answered a similar one last year, of course i'm going to answer this one too... good luck with your paper, guys)

PS: done. Cool

Thanks to everyone so far! It is going great but we are still hoping for more participants so if you could spread the word that would be fantastic!

Also, all comments made earlier in the thread have been noted, thanks for those.

Hey,

We are two students from the University of Iceland gathering data for our final thesis. The thesis is about gaming behavior and preferences of players that enjoy games of different genres. The above link leads to a survey that should take around 5-10 minutes to complete that asks about some of your gaming behavior and game preferences. All information is completely confidential and untraceable. It would be greatly appreciated if you, the participant, could be honest in your replies to make the results as accurate as possible.

Thank you in advance for taking the time out to do this survey, it means a lot to us. If there are any questions you want answered before or after you take part in the survey, please do not hesitate in sending a mail to this character and we will reply as soon as possible.

By taking part in this survey you agree to let us process your answers and use them in our paper.

Thanks again! o7

Sorry, can't complete the survey since I do not know what the us eqivalent to high school / college could be. -.-

EDIT: and I'm actually to lazy to look it up.

The US equivalent to highschool/college is highschool....it is asking if you have secondary level education. College is sometimes used in english and romance countries as another term for high school - typically where the school originally was a vocational training school and has since become a general secondary school.

Errr... sorry. I failed to post. the german equivalent to highschool/college ofc. The other way around would be stupid.

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Fighting back is more fun than not.

Bit disappointed with one of the questions - there is no 'student' option. Only unemployed/employed. Now I look like a lazy bum who plays eve all the time Sad

The available answers weren't broad enough. It looks like you're doing your best to make out that anyone who plays games has some sort of problem or addiction.

Did this survey seem weird to anyone else, maybe its a language barrier thing.

The question about enjoyable probably needs to be reworded. Its like is this enjoyable? It needs a context, like is this stuff enjoyable in Eve. I guess you could say, is this enjoyable in general, but thats kinda hard to answer.

I found a couple of things about the 'enjoyable' questions odd as well.

Anyway, submitted.
Good luck with your thesis!

Answered.

Think the "Business simulation" phrasing is problematic (game type question), as it does not obviously include other simulation games (such as SimCity, Civ, Sims etc)... either that or that category is missing.

Went looking for questions such as "Do you use EVE to carry out your sociopath fantasies to enable you to be more successful in real life?"

Left disappointed

The question "What is your level of education?* " is missing the "master degree" (next higher after "bachelor degree"). Sad

Here is a quick debrief:

The study revolves around problematic video gaming (PVG) and aims to investigate if there is a marked difference in prevalence of PVG between players of MMORPGs and FPS games. These two genres have proven to have the highest rates of PVG in previous research. The structural characteristics questions aim to see if there is a marked difference in the ratings of certain game elements between those diagnosed with PVG according to the GAS-7 diagnostic tool included in the survey and those not diagnosed with PVG. Comparing this difference between the game might reveal different structural elements as risk factors between the two genres. This will hopefully shed light on whether or not PVG is identical across genres or if it might be structurally different and therefore warrant different diagnostic criteria to minimize false positives.

I hope this clarifies things a bit but if you have any further questions then feel free to reply to this post and ask. There might be a slight delay in our response but we will attempt to answer your questions.

The paper will be written in English but we are not sure about publication restrictions that might be placed on it. If we can share it with you once it is finished and graded, we will happily do so.

Thanks again to everyone that took part!

The last one of these was really stupid and I couldn't even see how any of the questions applied to EVE, so no.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com
