What is a fun non-T3 ship for low-sec explo?

Everyone tells me to just hop into a Tengu, but I feel like I'd be wasting ISK on something that can do so much more.

I wish/hope the Gnosis' probe strength bonus makes it onto another hull, that would make me leap for joy.

I think a ceberus could fit a standard probe

:(

Makes me sad there are no Caldari explo boats, or even how I have to hodge-podge something together in order to do what a T3 can do.

I still find it strange that the T3 design paradigm is that it can do everything, but some roles are exclusive to the T3 bonus-wise.

I wish Combat Recons were re-imagined to be explo/combat scanner ships.

I hope I am not wrong in believing we are getting T2 battlecruisers with that role in mind for Odyssey (a new myrmidon was potentially spotted).

Also, the drake would probably work as an exploration boat in a pinch. I use it for wormhole diving all the time.

If that happened, then they'd be actually somewhat related to the term "recon".

and that would make them useful.

and we can't have that now can we.

That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter used by carriers.

Well, you can still just design an caldari exploration ship yourself. Just look what you have and fit. Maybe a Drake?

I know people use the Gila for exploration, though that's more Gallente than Caldari due to drones. Still, might be worth a look.

Well I don't know about you, but mine are useful. Its just that the curse doesn't seem to have a single thing to do with reconnaissance.

I dunno. I saw the Gnosis with that scan bonus and my mind exploded, totally saw potential there.

I would think it'd be cool if there were Force Recon where they focused on ewar, and Combat Recon where they're like hunter-HACs.

Something stops you from fitting Grav cap rigs on a Combat recon and using it that way?

The scan bonus is not necessary with good skills and equipment, it's just a comfort measure.

True, but rig slots are sometimes needed for something else. So maybe there are better uses for that role bonus instead of cyno fuel/time conservation ones (or at least make "time" part more radical)?

That said, scan strength is somewhat lesser of an issue when it comes to picking exploration ship...

A hunter ship would require a covert ops cloak or it would be kinda useless, as said above scanning bonus is nice but not essential. That would be really awesome though, dropping the ewar bonus for a cloak bonus + weapons bonus and the ability CPU to fit an expanded probe launcher + a decent tank and dps would be the perfect hunters. Although we kinda have that in the Proteus and to a lesser extent the other T3 cruisers, it would be nice to have a dedicated platform.

On the topic, most of the T1 cruisers can be used as makeshift explorers in lowsec which are capable of quite alot except higher end DEDs the Vexor and Arbitrator are the better ones cause droneboats get lots of utility but the Rupture/Stabber are decent and Caldari get the short end of the stick for this because none of their dps cruisers get utility highs, but if you really want to I think you could do something with the Blackbird or even the Caracal though you'd be better off cross training or upping to a Drake.
