I’ve often wondered and can’t find any thread on this.

Trolls & flames welcome as always. But some thoughts appreciated as well.

So why did you pick a female character?

Most female characters are alts is my guess.

My main is male. Female alt is a change of pace. It really doesn't make any difference except being slightly more fun to customize in character creator.

I vaguely remember reading that for some it is about creating detachment to minimize the sense of loss when podded.

Anyone here do it for sort of that?

I think you are overthinking this. lol

Most men like their main character (themselves) to be surrounded by a harem of pretty females that don't talk back and dont shout at them for not doing chores (their alts) :) Just like in real life.

Also the b@@b issue is a strong determining factor.

I had femal characters in allmost all MMO's i've ever played. I mean, if you have to stare on your caracters ass for hours... The view is just better :D

Ok, EVE is a bit special, no real avatar gameplay here... But i think you get the point ;)

It never even crossed my mind to pick a girl.

There's got to be some Freudian subtextual explanation for that.

Well, in the beginning, we didn't have WiS, so we didn't have to deal with the Homerphobia of staring at a man's rump all day in 3rd person. Then Captain's Quarter's (CQ) arrived and everyone created BewBies! female alts. Then everyone[1] realized this wasn't WiS and turned off CQ. Eventually sub churn will restore the gender balance to what it was pre-CQ.


[1] CCP included.

I keep a couple of female alts for when I get the urge to play with space barbies, no lie.

A professional astro-bastard was not available so they sent me.

Wanted to play Vherokior for RP reasons, couldn't get an agreeable look from the males, while the females looked downright praeterhuman and more in keeping with the 'evolved' inhabitants of New Eden.

Still have yet to RP in this game, though. [:smirk:]

My hauler alt is female. I made her way back when, she pretty much just hauls and moves stuff. I figured i needed a female avatar eventually, all the rest are males. no real reason but she looked nice
