Alliance not able to use POS's Corp Hanger/Maint Array?

So, since apparently i'm not allowed to post any new topics in the "corporation" section of these forums, i figured this was the next best place.

I'm currently trying to set a tower of mine to allow alliance members access to the Corp Hanger and Maints Array. However, after setting the arrays to "Alliance" for "Take & View", it is still giving me the msg saying they don't have access b/c they aren't in the same corp.

Is there something i am missing? Or is this just how this has been since CCP messed stuff up with inventory and roles?

POS Arrays only work for the owning Corporation and its members only. Period.

edit: or anything else involving the POS.

There why is there even an "alliance" option in the "view" and "take" fields? I'm pretty sure it used to work.

With another few session changes i got the Maint Array to work for me, but Corp Hanger is still not allowing.

According to my old alliance leader when I asked the same thing 2 years ago, it has never worked. It's one of the oversights and part of a huge list of things that need fixing about POS's.

Feel free to search the many many threads about that.

You must have the proper roles for that. If you are CEO you should have all roles. If not, select them. And the roles must be assigned in most of those dropdown menus as well.

Yes, both characters i'm trying this with are both CEO's of their respective corps within the alliance.

only thing available to alliance members is ME/PE research slots. And then, only if the ME/PE research doesn't need any additional items.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Again, if this has never been possible, and never intended, then why did CCP put the "alliance" option in the "View and Take" fields of the Corp Hanger at a POS.???

edit,
Krix, didn't see your first post, good to know it has never functioned as apparently intended....

You will have to ask CCP.

Here is the latest thing said Saturday by a Dev at PAXEast:

"CCP Dolan told us how the POS code was constructed, in very loose terms. CCP is somewhat forgiven for their lack of progress on it, it sounds like staring into the unblinking eye of an Elder God, fueled by drunken Icelandic programmers. He discussed it as an inverted pyramid and the top of it was rat AI, better known to us as Skynet. Yes, the POS runs on the same NPC AI as pirates and faction police. I s*** you f****** not."

Actually, given the bizarre way POS weapons aggro it does explain a lot.

Lets just hope its one of the things fixed with the little tweaks coming for POS's in Odyssey, with any luck CCP will centralise all material storage in POS's too whilst they are at it, moving things between component arrays is a pain in the ass.

I think we'll be lucky to get the access stuff hammered out at this stage. The materials portion will likely have to wait until they do the full overhaul...

Alliance members can use the fitting service of a Ship Maintenance Array.

You have to enable the array for alliance use from the tower structures menu.

Like all things POS related, it doesn't always work right though.

Can't check at the moment, but I seem to recall the SMA having "USE" setting. That's for the fitting service.

It probably was intended to be possible at some point.

What you have to remember is that POSes have been largely untouched since they were developed ~10 years ago.

Look up some of the hand-wringing CCP was doing when they converted POSes to using a different type of fuel.

That's not to say the code is bad because it's old. It's bad because of the constraints it was designed under. Constraints like the one that lead to the great Moon Goo dupeing exploit. (Hey, I have a great idea, let's save some CPU and not check if the input can has anything to input before adding to the output can.)
