BC5 & Dessy 5

in 3 days I'll finish training and I'll have:
amarr\caldari\gallente\minmatar Frigate IV
Destroyer IV
amarr\caldari\gallente\minmatar Cruiser III
Battlecruiser IV

my question is as now I'm pretty much AFK win all L2 missions and doing very easily the L3 missions as well what is the importance of BC and dessy rank 5?

as far as i can tell it's just 10-15% bonus to some weapon system or preq for T2 ships which I don't have the support skill to fly anyway and even if I'll wish to fly one I'll need to train many other skills before.
so I can safely say that in my case I should stop at Dessy and BC rank 4 to benefit from the free skill points and go back training my other skills?

No. Bad decision.

BC V is a great skill to have at V all on its own. Some of the BC's really shine when you give them all the suport/skilling you can.
Also, if you are aware of the future 'racial' BC requirements, no need to go into that here.

In the future, you may want to do *more* than level 3 missions. BC is such a versatile ship for soooo many things.
If you think that training to V is a pain now? It will be 4 times the pain later.

if you plan on never ever using battlecruisers after the patch, you can stop training, otherwise get it up there.

ok I can 100 % train BC 5 before the expansion. and I'm currently playing with a prophecy.
how about destroyer 5? any importance? I'm not flying destroyer anyway right now maybe if I'll go pvp sometime.

and let's say I got destroyer 5 to 80% research and the patch hits does i get 4 racial destroyer skills on 80% or all research is lost?

I'd just do it now and get it out of the way. I'd also do Destroyers V as well.
Right now you may not be looking at it being a big deal, however later this year you may be wishing you did do it because you want to get into FW or whatever.

You'll thank yourself later.

Destroyer 5 is about 8-9 days and will still be required to fly interdictors. While you may not have any intention to fly them today, circumstances change and you may find yourself in nullsec or w-space and need to have that skill.

70 odd days before June 4. BC5 is roughly 20 days.

think about the fact if it's usefull for you to fly BCs and Commands, otherwise stop wasting spellpoints

any other worthwhile skill to get before the changes of the expansion? by evemon I still got 35 days for bc and dessy 5.

Take a read through the skill change devblog (and maybe a second and third read) and decide for yourself. Personally I decided not to go for Destroyers 5 even though I have plenty time. Bear in mind that training for training sake is a waste of time, weigh up the pros and cons and then decide.

A couple of additional options that make sense:

Train the prerequisites for the Command Ships skill and train it to Level I. It'll be a lot harder after the patch.

Train the prerequisites for the Assault Ships skill (you probably already have them done) and train it to Level I. It's kinda changing.

Look at the other upcoming changes too - Interdictors in particular.

Can you link to where this is stated to be the case? The skills dev blog ( http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/the-great-skill-change-of-blessed-2013/ ) states:
"All the other vessels not listed here (...Assault Ships...) are not directly affected by the skill modifications,"

BC 5 is probably the best skill I have trained in all of my Eve play time since 06. You get 6m "free" SP when you have these trained and they do the change over.

It will save you from having to train all racial BC to 5 and all racial destroyers to 5. In the grand scheme of things the 25-30 days of training it takes to do BC and Dest to 5 is much easier to do now than having to train for 100+ days to get them all to 5 when the switch happens.


Also, they have been changing some ship requirements around to use BC instead of Cruisers. The line that comes to mind are the command ships.

All good points. Command Ships have always been BCs though.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

Their skill requirements were always a little janked around though. Right now, you need BC 5, racial cruiser 5, and either HAC 4 or Logi 4. So effectively there was a double check that more or less ensured you could fly BCs at max and racial cruisers at max. It's definitely more intuitive to make it just racial BCs here (even though I still dislike this set of changes as a whole; I just can't shake it).

The SP it took to get you to 80% of dessyV will be refunded to you but it wont be enough to get all 4 races to 80% so it would be a serious mistake to not finish the skill if you have time. Right now anyone can inject and train both Dessy and BC to V and still have plenty of time to spare before the Expansion hits.

There are no skill refunds happening. (unless you somehow have Destroyers trained with no racial frigs at 3 or battlecruisers trained with no racial cruisers at 3)

So if you have Destoyers V trained 80% of the way before the change, then after you will have all 4 racial destroyers trained 80% of the way. (assuming you have all four facial frigates trained to 3 at least)

What if I have the Command Ship skill to 4 already but Information Warfare, Armored Warfare, Siege Warfare, and Skirmish Warfare skill at 1 only, will I still be able fly the ships?

If you have it injected you are immune to the new pre-reqs...
