Hi guys,
Soon I will have my tech 2 hobgoblins .I'm already trained for heavy drones but I really think there is no use for heavies or mediums in level 4 missions since they miss all the time or they die fast.I need advices of what to use but I really think all drones except lights are useless.

Depends what ship you're flying and how quickly you can scoop them up if they get focused.

I have a Dominix drone boat I use for level 4s, with drone rigs, drone range boosts in high, drone speed and tracking boosts in medium, and drone damage boosts plus some tanking in low. I also have a micro jump drive. I come into the mission, then jump off 100k in a direction without enemies. I use the hobgoblin IIs first to take out any frigates and cruisers. Then I use Hammerhead IIs for battlecruisers and battleships. With 2 drone speed boosts, the hammerheads move too fast to take a lot of damage, plus they have improved HP from the dominix and the drone rigs. A standard Dominix has room for 30 hammerheads and 15 hobgoblins. You can fit a couple guns in your high slot if you want, but I find it doesn't make much difference.

Best part of going pure drone, you do not spend *anything* on ammo. And if you run with a repper for your ship, you don't have your own repair costs. You can also fit a remote repper for your drones if you want, but even for tech 2 drones station repairs are cheap.

Downside is with the hammerheads you have to micromanage a lot so you don't lose them, it's why I have 30, so I can cycle them in and out in groups of 6.

Don't try that with T2 drones. You'll cut heavily into your profits.

I have sentry drones, I've tried it with sentry drones, but I prefer the mobility of combat drones. I can send light drones out to 80-100 km, I can't do that with sentry drones.

you know thats the reason they die?

Sentries are awesome if u can use t2. they can hit as far as u can control them and u can scoop and relaunch in less than 5 secs. they also have more hp so they wont die as sson as a npc frig sneezes at them.

Groups of 6? Am I missing somethin?

I think that drone tactics fit pretty well into "Warfare and Tactics", but I may be wrong.

I would suggest aiming to get into Sentries. Much less likely to loose them as long as you know what you're doing.

Not going to rehash what's already been stated, but basically I use lights, mediums, and sentries (all T2, and I build all my own from invented prints, so not pissed about cost). I don't send drones out more than 30k from the ship; too easy to lose them going out too far. Sentries to kill all but the largest of targets, lights for the fast movers that get in close, and mediums for the cruisers that get in before I can kill them. Haven't used heavies in years, have no plan to start. Too slow to be of much use, and the sentries more than make up for them in DPS and range.

And how I understand what drones to use against the ships?Light medium or heavies? From the crosses?

Assuming you're not flying a drone boat, all you need are light drones for lvl 4's to take out frigates, and your battleship guns will take care of the rest. With the new drone ai I just use t1 drones, because some missions will burn through your drones like ammo.

I tend to treat drones as a backup damage system. Going all drone IMHO is asking for a wuppin. (personal exp.)

Current boat is a **** fit BS with heavy guns for bigger mission rats and drones for frigs. since I tend to use hobgoblin 1's and have a bpo for them it tends to keep the costs down. but they are NOT my main damage dealers. I have used ogers and they do excel against heavy targets, however the now tend to draw aggro from the frigs.

as usual it's all about playstyle and fitting, and what works for you.
