Its going to be very costly for the person taking the loan.

You would have to transfer your character, which costs 2 PLEX
then the loaner needs to transfer the character back, which is another 2 PLEX

4 PLEX plus % (usually 5% of the loan) is going to be the outcome.

so it is legal? Couldn't like a written agreement to trade the toon over after a period of time be enforceable by ccp?

No. You'd have to give them the character.

Read the Character Bazaar rules.

I would avoid using characters as collateral. But yes, its technically possible. No ccp won't help you if person decides to keep the character after you trade him.

I am pretty sure that CCP would treat it as one transaction.

So if you exchanged a character for money. The other person would not have to give it back.

I am 99% sure that CCP would not look at or care about your agreement with the other player

yes

When did character transfers start costing PLEX?

There is nothing in the EULA against using characters as collateral. I've researched this extensively about a year ago. I've had a few loans that used characters as collateral. While it is an option, it tends to be an expensive option because of the associated transfer fees.

But you can't involve CPP, you have to trust the party holding the character to give it back at the end of the term. For all intensive purposes the character is the property of the collateral holder the second it is transferred over.

It would have to be a surprisingly large loan to warrant 2 billion in pure paperwork outside of all the regular work. 2 Bill is easily the full return on a well collaterized 100 bill loan.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.
