[Suggestion] Corp/alliance database purge

Title says it all really.

It's getting harder and harder for players to come up with unique names without going totally off the deep end. Meanwhile, there are a lot of cool names tied up by people who aren't playing the game, and haven't been for a long time.

If a corp/alliance has been inactive for 2+ years, it needs to be purged.

Also, do these dead corps who have offices count towards how rent fees are charged? If so, that should be addressed in the purge as well.

this isn't a bad idea actually ...

though how is "activity" figured?

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I've come across TONS of small corps (1-5 players) that have either all been biomassed, or haven't logged in for so long, they don't even have a profile photo. That would be a good place to start.

yeah, that'd definitely count as "inactive".

edit -- though, they shouldn't have offices anymore ... once the ISK runs out, office goes poof...

Just have a fee to maintain a corp, just like an alliance.

The employment records around the place for toons that were once in those corps/alliances will have Holes all over them :(

EDIT: If I remember correctly, you can petition for players that haven't logged in for 6Months+ to be removed from the corp, I can't remember the mechanics surrounding joining a closed corp though. Or if you can include in the same petition to join the corp that you are about to empty

Hmm, yeah, forgot about that if they were to be straight deleted.

How about the NAME gets to be reused, but you need a new ticker?

People just to give some more thought to what they call new corps. the knock on effect to employment histories would be a pain to deal with so I doubt it's something that CCP really would want to look into at the moment atleast.

This is already how it works. Check my employment history.

Only the ticker needs to be different.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

CCP recently did something that enables you to re-use old corporation/alliance names and tickers.

Take a gander at my employment history. I completely closed my corporation after I failed to pay my alliance rental bill and it was lost. Joined a corp in a WH for awhile. Left then reformed my corp and alliance with the same names and tickers.

CCP hadn't listed it anywhere as a change, but they did change it. Thusly, this is no longer an issue.

It wont let me have an empty signature...
