Mean while, somewhere in Sing Laison...

Tragedy struck today,
when a pilot tried to orbit a planet!
Aparently that is not allowed!

When the pilot was asked to comment,
jhe studered and yelled something about. .
"illogical... ILlOGICAL!!!"

This is to do with EVE's physics system.

Every spot where a player is sitting is chuncked up into grids. Grids are dynamic and change in size as players and items are moving within them. Their limit tends to be about 450km by default.

All the specific movement commands are thus limited to 100km maximums to prevent people from giving orders that would put them out of the grid (besides a manual flight click)

In order to orbit a planet it would take an orbit radius MUCH larger than a single grid and thus breaks the game trying to calculate a flight path (or at least I figure some similar limitation exists because of the large radius)

The other part of it is how silly it would be to orbit a planet at only 100km.

And finally, planets aren't actually to scale. When flying up to them with a fast ship you'll find that it wouldn't take many titans to fill the inside of one....
