Please welcome CCP Eterne with his first EVE Community Spotlight to continue the long running serious introducing interesting initiatives from the EVE community for the EVE community.

The EVE Universe is full of player run alliances fighting for supremacy over vast amounts of deep space. Visualizing the influence of all the alliances and different power blocks in the EVE Universe is not an easy task though, but brilliant members of the EVE Community came up with some clever solutions.

The 15th Spotlight is about Verite Rendtion's Influence Maps

It is indeed a wonderful tool. Thank you very much, Verite Rendition, Paladin Vent, Joshua Foiritain and all the other map makers past and present!

Great map. Even with me being in high sec it has been something I have been watching for a long time now.

These have also been put into monthly and yearly animated sequences for over a year now.

Can we now proceed to fix nullsec, as the "sov warfare" expansion obviously didnt work very well?

This map shows perfectly how at least half of the map is of the same color.
Sov update anyone?

Have to thank the Author for two reasons:

1) Putting in the effort to create the map to begin with.

2) Keeping up for so many years. Managing a continued operation for several years is an achievement as difficult and as deserving as creating the operation itself.

This forum really needs a  icon for these kinds of threads.

Thanks a lot for your work Verite Rendtion, I check your maps pretty often :)
I like the idea of making a more political one, it takes a good dose of knowledge to know who is friend with each other, and most people ignore that outside of their direct coalition, and some enemies.

The only issue with these are the colors choice ; sometimes you get 2 alliances with the same, or a very close color next to each other, it can be a problem, and can last for months. For example, we have currently Nulli and Pangu at the same place, and both are white ; we only see one of them if we're not checking closer.

Thanks a lot for this fantastic work done on the maps, and the effort behind it!

I searched a bit and found an annotated map for 2012 where some of the major map changes were commented. This is great for players who are new to the game, to better understand what is behind hate comments (sorry for being so blunt) in the forums.

Are there any annotated map videos (or Eve history blogs) that explain the major changes over the years?

What I noticed from watching the 2008-2013 were e.g. the Goonswarm Federation hop from south east to south west, their disappearance, re-appearance and revival in the north west. And some powerblocks coming seemingly from out of nowhere and taking previously occupied territory - is there a history that describes who merged with who, who opposes who etc.?

Thanks!

Sometimes the colors do have to be tweaked (the software isn't perfect about correcting those issues), and I get around to that when I can. However Nulli and Pangu are not identical colors.

Nulli: FF,FF,FF
Pangu: 73,80,71

Pangu is slightly green of gun metal gray, while Nulli is pure white. I'm not sure why you'd be seeing them as the same color. I admit this isn't designed for color blindness. Or maybe it's just your monitor?

I was wondering if the time alliances change colors were coincidence, or you were doing it manually ;)
For Pangu and Nulli, I made a mistake ; was looking on the northeast part, and pangu is written on white, and his territory was so small I didn't realized it was the grey thing... the examples I wanted to use had collapsed I used another one too quickly ;)
I remember legion and shadow of xxDeath, and Red being an issue on the past. Solar citizens and NCdot had it not long ago, but well here, history stated it was not a mistake but the future ;)

The other concept he's been toying with is a power bloc map. The code makes it easy; the problem is that defining power blocs reintroduces a human factor. He believes it would be best if the person responsible for that was not himself, so that there’s a clear separation between the person creating the maps (apolitical), and the person defining the power blocs (political).

Maybe open a powerblock (coalitions) map up to a set number of power blocks with an "admin panel" for each.
Then use the input by said admins to color the blocks on the map.
The systems contested by the different admins could then show symbols like on the FW map.

I think the political enteties wont profit from the map just by creating inaccurate zones.
So over time will create a map that helps everyone to a view into the powerblock distribution in EVE.

Just a suggestion ;)

Keep up the good work!
