I am still not sure why I should in any way shape or form care about dust other than a balance sheet showing that Dust 514 has stopped sucking money out of EvE and that it is economically standing on its own two feet.

And if its not why shouldn't it just be shot in the head now before it costs us more money that could be used to make EvE, the game we all pay for better?

Because DUST will make EVE better as it stands.

Not only will it bring more to the community as a whole, but it will bring new options, new meta game, less 'useless' or less useful parts of the game.

For Example, prior to Planetary interaction, what were Planets used for. Warp to Points is about the only practical purpose most people held.

Now, orbital zones are becoming actual battlefields. New grids that you can actually have a battle with a determined goal on it. New mechanics that you just cannot do with the current scope of EVE. Like joint operations, planetary conquest.

In the future, possible ideas include, capturing stations with DUST Mercs, popping reinforcement timers with DUST Mercs, strangle-holding Moon Goo production, preventing PI gathering. All these could affect EVE Online and bring you, the EVE player (as well as I am myself) a deeper, richer game that not only involves many other people, but many other roles beyond flying impressive and massive spacecraft.

Ok so capturing Stations with dust mercenaries, so something I cannot do even though I am paying for EvE.
Popping reinforcement timers, something I cannot do even though I am paying for EvE.
Strangle-holding moon Goo production with dust mercenaries, something I cannot do even though I am paying for EvE.
Preventing PI gathering like everything else here something I cannot do even though I am paying for EvE and in the case of PI and even moon Goo an ability of EvE that we would be unable to counter by playing EvE, even though we pay for this game.

Actually you are making the whole thing sound a lot worse than I thought.

So what your saying is that we should encourage dust development through voting in Dust CSM members so they can turn our game to crap.

Oh and if Incarna showed anything besides a hatred of micro transactions it is very much that eve players want their development time used on FiS (I actually like the idea of WiS myself but I am in a minority, but I will be buggered if I want development resources going on a separate game on a console system)

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

While I respect your views that EVE is a game unto itself, the point here is that while EVE is a great and deep game all of its own, it does not appeal to a massive audience. Firstly, it is an MMO RPG, albeit a different one than the usual fantasy-based ones, which limits it to a certain genre. Secondly it has a steep, intellectual learning curve, and even after 4-5 years you can still manage to learn something new. This keep the population down even further, and makes EVE Online a niche game.

It is a great game, I love it myself, but what I love more is this ideal that CCP has. That they can, by combining two separate games on two separate platforms, of two separate genres, both increase the appeal of New Eden, and bring a new perspective on this universe they have created.

The money to develop DUST has been spent, and money will continue to flow into it's development, whether from the 1.5 million active accounts, or from the budget given by EVE Online, the funding shall continue and DUST will be a part of New Eden.

What I stand to represent is giving a medium through which DUST and EVE integration can both enhance and grief each other. It's a question bandied about by both communities.

If EVE and DUST cannot grief each other, has the link failed?

Almost unanimously, the answer is Yes. From both EVE and DUST players I've heard asked this question.

Why, when the game is here, developing, and already influencing the world of New Eden, should we fight against the inevitable? The answer is we shouldn't and we should embrace this new facet of New Eden that, yes, should be able to positively AND negatively impact each other.

And to your original, and vastly overbearing point, that profits from EVE should go to making EVE better... Why would they do that? Above all, CCP is a business, and while catering to their growing EVE Online subscriber base has indeed given them a massive solid base to work from, they, like any company, want to extend their influence, and they do that by spending the profits they've already earned from previous ventures (EVE Online) on new developments.

Unlike other companies, however, they didn't recreate and rebrand EVE as EVE 2, nor create an entirely new game, they focused on the game world they created and over the course of a few months in Open Beta, they have multiplied their player base by more than four times. I'd call that a successful venture.

More than that, the integration allows for EVE and DUST to truly affect each other and build on each other even more. As well as ushering a new age of Cross-Platform, Cross-Genre Gaming, that interacts in Real-Time.

Frying Doom, you comments seem very much like the proverbial ostrich with its head in the sand.
DUST 514 is being built.
It will be integrated.
Get over it, and endeavor to make the best of it. And no, 'the best' does not include scrapping it nor isolating it from Eve. These are not choices CCP will present us with.

Due to an unforseen complication in attaining my Passport, I was unable to provide CCP with their required Scan, and thus, have withdrawn my candidacy for CSM8.

Apparently, since I shared my grandfather's name, his passing has registered me as deceased to some branches of the government, and they don't like issuing Passports to dead guys.

Hopefully I can have this issue cleared up, and run for CSM9 next year.

To the rest of the Candidates, Good Luck.
