processor: i5 3470
ram memory: 8gb (2x4) adata 2000mhz
graphics card: asus geforce gtx 660

my comp is able to smoothly run battlefield 3 and the witcher 2 on ultra details in full hd but in eve online my fps drops by half down to 30fps when theres smoke and fog in mission and plex pockets. dafuq is this

srsly it can handle bf3 and tw2 without any problems yet it cant handle mmo ?

and im playing on single client.

Smoke and fog eats away at any card (especially with HDR), at least in Eve. CCP might have some code to improve here, but it might also be that it's the sheer amount of smoke in the pockets that makes its brutal mark on the FPS-meter inevitable.

bad optimalisation ? no game smokes make my fps drop by half, not even the newest ones with gorgeous graphics

same problem here, I got a 670 but still have the same problem with not only smokes and fogs, but also even with POS mods 0.0
This card is more than enough to handle EVE in max setting and yet it seems failed to do so.
Don't tell me nowadays to get 60 fps in max EVE setting you need a Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan.

I think I fixed the problem, just by choosing the option "present interval" from "interval one" to "interval immediate"
I don't really know what it does but on the description it says that
"changing the presentation interval can increase your max fps but doesn't really affect the real EVE performance"
And now my fps (in game fps) is flying between 200 and 400.......
that is smoooooth.........

smoke and fog tested
everything is as smooth as butter :)
that option really helped me out.
hope it will help you out too :)

It just overheating your CPU and videocard, making them calculate frames you will never see.
You don't need 60 FPS in EVE - as long as the rest of your system runs fine, you're okay.
Said that, you're likely have issues outside EVE, that limiting your framerate. I have GT640 and I run 60FPS flat in any situation except massive traffic jams.
For one example, video recording software may limit framerate for performance reasons.

I don't think you want to run it on immediate interval for any length of time. It pushes your GPU to max, all the time.

thx for the tips guys, now I understand the "immediate" use.
But still if I turn back to interval one, the game lags when entering fog or cloud.
Still don't have an answer for that....
I turned off the V-sync btw.... still not working for me..

BTW, if you have Nvidia card, change "Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames" option from Nvidia Control Panel to 1, that often helps with performance alot.
The clouds in EVE will still cause problems, but anyways, try it out.

what will that do ? is that gonna affect battlefield 3 graphics in any way ??

To my setup (i5 2500k, Geforce GTX 560, 8 gb ram) only thing it does is boost my FPS no matter what game.
I did read it can cause mouse and keyboard lag if lowered but lowers visual lag. This will only happen though if you're running really heavy game, since that keyboard and mouse lag occurs pretty much only with low FPS.

Please note that you can make game specific settings in nvidia control panel, so you can change the value only for one game if needed.

Anyways: Default value is 3, lower improves FPS, I have it set up to 1 for all games.

It does not have any effect on graphics visual quality.

O/ good topic, thanks OP, glad someone has already started it!

I too suffer from these graphical problems. I have submitted a bug report with a screenshot. http://i.imgur.com/529sKfy.jpg

I also made a video on my phone to document it further.
http://youtu.be/PcklB_Mgqdg

I have experienced this issue since I first started playing Eve more than a year ago, and I've been playing hardcore since then. It happens on deadspace mainly that have fog. I have encountered some deadspaces that seem to be more optimized than others and the problem isn't nearly as exacerbated to the point where it's compelling me to document and search forums for similar cases. Now Id rather be enjoying the game than wondering why computer is struggling to run this ancient piece of software.

I'm a computer enthusiast and I put computers together, troubleshoot software and hardware for myself and friends for years now.
This is what I'm running:
Asus P6T Deluxe V2
Intel i975 processor
Evga Nvidia GTX 560 Ti
9GB Crucial DDR3
120 GB Crucial SSD HD
LCD Monitor
Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit
Eset Smart Security 4

This thread is another nerf clouds one like this

I've successfully been able to recreate one of the mentioned performance issues associated with the smoke/fog environment. I found a magnetometric site "Decayed Blood Raider Mass Grave" that causes severe performance problems because of the smoke/fog.

If I leave everything on high quality I get 30 FPS or less. If I disable shadows I get 60 FPS and better. Sometimes disabling shadows alone doesn't help, sometimes I have to reduce the shader quality to low then back to high to force a video buffer flush.

The frame rate of the video signal drops a good way below the refresh rate of my LCD monitor (60 Cycles Per Second) and that impacts game play performance.
to the eyes because the video signal appears to stutter/slideshow effect since the refresh cycle of the monitor is 60 cycles per second, therefore the FPS needs to be the same.

GM said no ETA

This is an issue we are aware of and working on, but unfortunately we do not yet have an estimated time when the clouds will be better optimized to have less of an effect on your FPS.

It most likely comes down to:

-Sun is Occluded by objects
+Guess what those clouds are... ;)

-Post Processing
+IF you run at high resolutions (1920x1080 or more)

-LOD Quality
+Cloud detail...cloud detail everywhere

-Shadow Quality
+Clouds still produce shadows

Some other settings might also affect the game when a lighting-complex scene is present (ie fog/smoke).

You never stated if you have Resource Cache Enabled.
+This could help with performance...provided you have the VRAM.

I would also recommend downloading either: EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner
+Both do the same thing, but EVGA's requires you have an account with them and I think a registered Graphics Card from them. Then setup custom fan profiles. I recommend this for ANY GPU VENDOR. Both ATI and Nvidia intentionally down-clock the fan duty cycle to reduce noise.

By default the Nvidia card will not ramp up the fan above 30% until the card reaches ~70C; at this point I believe it's at 50%. Right now my card is stable, in-game, at 60C with a 80% duty cycle.

The programs also allow you to monitor how much VRAM is being used. If you're pushing the limits on that you'll get a lot of stuttering as the card loads and unloads the graphic assets.

i would suggest you just use "immediate" when you have those clouds, and revert to "one" when you don't need it anymore.

and yeah, smoke clouds are killing any rigs when game is on "one"

i thought that with odyssey this issue will be fixed, but its not.

this problem still occurs. additionally when im at the acceleration gate and sometimes when i view ship models my fps drops exactly down to 30fps.

Had this problem on my old 9800GT 1gb.

And on my newer 7770 2GB 1.2Ghz edition.

If i didn't want dual monitors i could have easily still played eve on the 9800 its the smoke that kills it aswell as the new jump effects as stated here https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=244555&find=unread
