[Suggestion] Tug drones

Heavy utility drones able to tug large non-combat ships (such as industrial) using special anchors.

The bigger the ship, the more drones it would take to give it a boost (same way propulsion mods work more or less).

Would boost speed and maneuverability of the target ship by tugging the ship in the direction its pilot wants to go. The more drones the higher the bonus, up to a certain maximum (to be defined).

Would add delay to align time before warp however since the drones would have to unanchor prior to warp.

No offence but such drones would hardly ever be used.

I would use them on my haulers and mining barges to go faster in mission sites that contain asteroids and are in deadspace pockets... Warping to the acceleration gate and flying 60km+ at 90 m/s is a major pain, especially when you have several trips to make, even with an Orca. Or, the orca could "greet" haulers with these drones and help them move about faster in the field...

That's just one example, but there are others as well.

I kind of like it
However I'm not really sure what you're trying at

What do you mean by "trying at"?

I just don't get the purpose of these
sure, they'd be useful, but most of the time I spend moving in a industrial is in warp

have you ever tried to move an orca from 1 side of a belt to another? or any sustained travel in them or industry ships? or barges for that matter

I guess you could see it as another type of logistics drone that affects your agility and sub-warp speed, only it would only be applicable to industrial ships. You could call them Industrial Tug Drones

Just like how you can't repair yourself with Armor/Shield Repper drones, these Tug drones should only be usable on a target ship. Giving yourself the ability to speed up your align/'time to warp' is a bit...unbalanced. If on the other hand it was done by another player/character I think CCP would be more likely to implement them.

I think an even better idea would be to allow ships to tug other ships.

New skill: Towing (ranks I-V would increase the side of hulls that could be pulled)
New skill: Accelerated Towing (ranks I-V would increase the speed at which you can pull)
New industrial ships: Small, but powerful vessels that can't fit guns, who's sole purpose is to tow
New profession and mini-game

All of this would make ransoming a viable mini-game. Instead of just blowing people up, ransom them to just eject and take the ship.

Take what you can, give nothing back. Psychotic Monk for CSM8

Just BM an asteroid on the other side of the field, warp out, warp to bookmark. That shouldnt be an issue imo.

But i like the idea. Maybe also "just go" for ship-tractor-beams (only work for people in corp and / or gang).

and this isn't flagged as criminal. Suspect is a bit touchy ... if it went back to the "old" way of corp/fleet, that'd be the best one for this.

we're just gonna move you over here ... *drags mining barge from belt*.Pirate

edit -- I can already taste the tears James315 and crew will be mining with this.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

if you are moving an orca, you are doing it wrong ^_^;

I like the concept, but I would not let them have an effect on piloted ships.

Maybe they could be used as a way to tractor wrecks/cans back to your ship from long distance?
