CS Skill Change Question

With the upcoming changes to the Command Ships skill requirements, I'm considering training it to 5 now so that I can fly them without having all those leadership skills. The problem is, this is about 50 days out for me (I have no pre-reqs). This puts me at about a May 8th completion date.

If I am still finishing this up when the skill change patch comes, will I continue to train CS 5 so long as I don't pause or cancel the skill even though I won't have the prerequisite requirements to train it? Or will I be stuck 80% through level 5 with a skill I no longer qualify to continue training for?

The pre-reqs are only checked when you inject the skill book. What you need to fly the ships, well that's a different matter.

as far as i understand it as long as you have the skill injected you will be able to train it and fly the ships associated with the skill after the patch.

You're doing it wrong. Here's what you need to do now to fly and train CSs after the patch:


  1. Spaceship Command 5
  2. Battlecruisers 5
  3. Leadership 5
  4. Warfare Link Specialist 4
  5. Command Ships 1

That's it. Don't bother with anything else. Stop there and wait for the patch. Afterwards, you will be able to fly all CSs and train the CS skill at your leisure.

Oh, cool. I didn't know skill checks only happened upon injecting. I guess I'll just train it to 1 since I'm 2 months old and all. Thanks all!

It was worth checking. That change appears to be coming in with the skill changes. Ytterbium mentions it here.

Im thinking it was assumed the person already did the necessary BC training before considering all command ships...

And you would be right. I'm good on all the obvious stuff. And I'm clueless about the obscure ccp forum posts. Thanks for that link Zhilia!

I would doublecheck this. One of my alts has a skill he cannot train because he is missing some prereqs ( the alt was made some years back, bevor the "new" char creation and a lot has changed since then).
And the devblog only says that one will still be able to fly the ship, nothing about further skill training. Blink

This exactly. While it's conceivably possible that CCP would only make this change for select skills, it seems much more straightforward to change the prerequisite checks across the board and allow all injected skills to be trained.
