Fleet locking

We have fleet warp. Why not fleet lock?

Locking would be dependent on the squad/wing organization, and who makes the call. Can be the same interface as calling out targets.

Q: What about ECM or range problems, off-grid, etc. stopping you from targeting?
A: Range/ECM locking problems are queued up so that, once able to lock, your ship automatically locks.

Q: What about the things the player locked? Wouldn't this be obtrusive in some ways?
A: Could be limited to one lock "slot" at a time; any new "fleet' lock would unlock the previous "fleet" lock. Maybe it could be a different color so that you don't get it confused with your regular locks. Can still lock your normal targets per usual; could have a fleet lock space "reserved" for fleet engagements. Doesn't switch your current target that you may be firing on.

Q: What if a player has a target locked, and the FC forces a lock on the same target?
A: Nothing changes except for a simple color representation, showing that the target is now an officially-sanctioned target.

This could really improve existing fleet communication. Allows for more flexible FC roles, especially for logistics. Still requires extensive voice comms, as the FC tells which squad / wing commander what to target. If the squad / wing commander is slow, people can still lock on their own terms.

Either way, if your fleet can warp your whole freaking ship to a destination, it should be able to tell you which celestial object to target.

No, we already have broadcasts. The FC should not be playing the game for the player.

And fleet broadcasts are pretty much the exact same thing, with the exception of the player having to right-click, lock target.

Apparently, right-clicking a broadcasted target and selecting "lock" is the scope of "playing eve." Roll Who knew.

Yes the FC can broadcast a target, but ultimately you are under control of your own ship. If you decided to you could lock up the FC and have a go at him.

So I draw your attention to the answer I gave in your other awful thread suggesting jove space expansion.

And fleet warping is being in control of your own ship? Also -- only one "lockspace" would be dedicated to fleet engagements, and would be visually separated.

And the answer you gave in the other thread is only demonstrative of ineffectual communication skills.

Fleet Warps enable to 'share' locations on the go.

Targets are already on grid, nothing to share.

Also, for F1-Drones it might be viable to synchronously lock the same targets as the FC, but for everyone else it's rather impractical. Imagine being a logi pilot, just coming out of a cycle of being jammed, and your FC decided to lock the next 6 BS. hallelujah BS you didnt want to lock, and hello logi mate you just dropped because your FC decided you should lock those BS.

My idea was that only one target could be "fleet-locked" at a time, and would be visually separated from your normally-locked targets (I was thinking color).

Which makes them nothing alike at all... gg.. RollRollRollRollRollRollRoll

The broadcast is exactly that... a notification to the fleet of a target. It remains up to the player to lock the correct target. There is often more than one target that has been broadcast. If your rabble of terrible players can't follow broadcasts and all shoot the primary shout at them, don't ask for the game to be put into super-easy-FC-control-my-PC-and-ship mode.

No!!

Absolutely no!

Fleet combat it this game is already overautomated, with FC warping people around, broadcasting target, and piloting hundreds of ships at once by having them anchor on him.

In fact as a counter proposal all fleet broadcasts and fleet warps should be removed, as well as “orbit”, “keep at range” and “approach” commands. Transferring drones to other ship control should go away too. It is time people get in to habit of commanding their own ships instead of having computer and FC do it for them.

I am going to have to go with no.

At this point that this happens, you may as well just make a fleet command ship that does 10,000 DPS with the tracking of a frigate, so that no one else needs to show up. The FCs can duel for the win, and the rest of us can read about it the next day.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

"New target new target"

Everyone right clicks, locks.

Guess you guys all think that playing eve is that right-click and lock maneuver. In a horrible UI to boot.

If one (read, one) separate fleet-lock existed, there is practically ZERO game-play difference, aside from making life less "right-click, select" which is so annoying prevalent in eve.

An alternative could be having the target broadcast where targets are normally locked (with the little icon), and you simply ctrl+select to start locking it. Once locked, the "broadcast" disappears.

Then you guys can all push your buttons (!!) :D

And it wouldn't be so stupid of an interface.

I don't like this. I think ganking is easy enough as it is without adding insta-fleet-lock to the equation.
