Once upon a time, GD was a happy place full of helpful smiling people.

Well, maybe not, as far as I've seen this has always been a bit of a cesspool. But recently there seems to be a rise in people going onto threads asking for help on specific issues and giving hell. Great, "google it" has always been useful advice, but consider the fact that sources such as the wiki are often unclear on many specific issues. I doubt many people care that you think a help thread is spam, it's not your place to say "stop posting and go die".

If someone's appealing to YOUR specialist knowledge, don't you think you should help them out a bit?

(Also I think posting a thread takes more effort than googling, so don't call 'em lazy. P )

Eve is a bad place, it caters to bad people, it's run by bad people....and you want the forums to be all flowers and ponies? Roll

except the majority of people asking questions, are asking dumb questions with the sources readily available via dev blogs and other obvious sources that don't even require google.

for example; the million threads about ship skill changes. to the point where ccp have had to repeatedly explain it, in various different ways, even though it was pretty clear the first time. there's also no reason for the same question to be asked multiple times, especially when the source for the answer is two clicks away in the dev blogs or something.

these people deserve the abuse, to be quite frank. not to mention if they're asking about something specific there's 9 times out of 10, a specific forum for that. so they also deserve abuse for using the wrong forum.

Once GD was a nice place where people did their research before posting and as a result had stimulating discussions.

(this is a lie, but GD has become a lot worse during the past 2-3 years)

I don't expect everyone to comb every inch of a Dev Blog and find every Page 50 Dev Post or find 3rd Party Sites that have the information.

Some people just aren't that into EVE to know where to go and figure the forums are the best start. Some are returning from breaks where they have been away a while. Some haven't logged in much or played in a certain area of the game and are just getting into it. The Biggest causer of confusion are people who read it and misunderstood something which is common to almost everyone.

I don't mind giving the answer if I know it, I just don't get all these people who like to try and feel good by chastising others for not being as obsessed about Mario Bros in Space.

No, this is just terrible. I get that you were trying to make things smooth here, but you are using the wrong words. It is certainly not abuse, but criticism.

If people are happy with going over 20 pages of criticism then this is just fine with me. I know it is not well seen with the moderation, because they want many people (not only two) to profit from a discussion, but I am not the moderation. And yet, one can share a few interests with the moderation.

If one cannot stand the criticism, either against oneself or against someone else, then one should not come here. If one wants to read only happy stuff then there are books, and entire stores full of them, just for happy readings.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

so, search function?

Yes the search function and the new post function are great ways to find simple information. I would suggest players use the new post button for a greater chance of up to date information.

you do realise using the post function before the search function, is the exact reason nobody is all sunshine and lollypops towards them, right?

I am. Lots of others are. The people who aren't keep putting themselves in a place that makes them angry...

I have a solution to their problem.

You mean the new topic button, right?

It helps push all the locked threads on gankers and whatnot off the first pace. Replacing them with locked threads on missile damage calculations and why do drones die so fast now...

This topic has been discussed many times in the past. A simple Google search would've told you this.

Seriously? The comments about using the search function are as old as forums themselves. Everyone gets the comment. Some forget about the search. But crying about it? Who does that? And since when? And why is it happening on the EVE forums??

It strikes me as being as absurd as if I had opened a kitchen cupboard and all of a sudden a giant green, slimy yet furry spider jumps out of it. Yet, it just happened. Shocked

Page 50 dev posts are easy to find. Click the blue bar. read the next dev post. click that blue bar. repeat. Is it too much to expect, to expect people to read the dev posts? It's not like there are hundreds of them, on any particular thread.

Woo! CSM XI!

You mean like the guy who calls his thread : looking for pos planner . And then my remark is type in google ''pos planner'' .. you know the EXACT words he used and voila you get one of the best pos planners.

Indeed how AWFULL to suggest to someone to do a basic thing.

Btw quirk , i noticed you made a remark about that in the pos planner thread and probably indeed the reason to make this thread.

Ironic how you can whine about this yet did not take the time to show the OP in that thread what choices he had regarding pos planners. So you whine about me saying ''google it'' yet add no content nor advice and i answer his question.

Trolltastic you be ...

Whitehound is among the pilots who helps new people out in the new player Q&A section.

GD has indeed devolved to be the place to post anything, because more people will see it there. I pity the mods.

Would it be better if we suggested DuckDuckGo or Bing! ?

Don't anger the forum gods.
