My Hawk was destroyed by a Rifter...

So I encountered a shield Rifter the other day which blew me away quite easily so, i figured I'd ask here for any advice and tips. What are the primary targets for the Hawk? and would the Harpy be better?

Learn to fly a rifter.

90% of of the time my posts are about something I actually find interesting and want to learn more about. Do not be alarmed.

If you're still managing to lose to Rifters in this, I suggest you take up mining.
Oh and hint: rage rockets are not meant to be used against frigates.

In my experience the MSB fit Hawk is a triumph of EFT figures over practicality; the cap use is enormous and the lack of web limits both your applied DPS and range control.

Thank you for those constructive replies. I'll give your build a go.

In fact I've found active Hawks in general pretty lacklustre (sp?) - small shield boosters just don't put out enough unless you invest in overpriced faction mods, and at that point you may as well just be flying a Dramiel.
(And they're still horribly overdependent on cap.)

man it just hurts my eft eyes seeing a mse on a hawk. Just doesn't make sense that a extender fit would perform better than an active fit. But experience speaks volumes and i've seen it recommended time and time again. *sigh*

Why? Active Hawk is a joke without faction mods, and then it's so overpriced it's a joke anyway. MSE Hawk has about 10k EHP that isn't turned off when someone neuts you, and leaves space for a much needed web.

Problem?
Rage rockets deal reduced damage to small targets, a shield Rifter like in the OP would mitigate approximately 40-50% of your DPS using those without a web, and a fair bit even with it.

You could also get a harpy if your having trouble with the hawk. harpy looks cooler, and would absolutely stomp a rifter.

This isn't 2008 any more, the Hawk is a great AF.

A non-lolfit Harpy on the other hand would indeed stomp a Rifter.

If you can't beat a tufted in a Hawk then either train more or practice more. You should of chewed him up! And so what if active hawk is cap dependent? So is a triple rep myrm and they're monsters. Learn to manage cap and enjoy the win.

I have perfect shield skills. The fight started with him getting in close so I unloaded right away and tried to keep up an ab orbit. I started to pulse my booster but he was just eating through faster than it could rep.

That fit should have no trouble tanking a rifter, even if they had the perfect damage type loaded right from the beginning.
