I know that capacitor boosters are used widely in pvp because of the near "instant" cap boost. Yet, are they used when running sites in e.g. C3? If so, is it going to be a big problem with hauling a large volume of charges? Approximately how many are necessary per an average anomaly?

depends om a lot of things, connections skills fleet comp etc etc. A hauler full of boosters should last you a day at least.

In a c3, you shouldn't need them for pve

I prefer to use stable self reliant fits in WH. Tho i could easily bring in a hauler full once a week, i feel more wormholey if im setup to last indefinitely.

Ok yeah it's easier too.

I think a mate uses them on his vargur in a C3.
Maybe produce them in the WH? Or just get a bunsh of them in their and see how many you use?

Depends on the type of tank. If you're using shield you're probably using the largest repper you can which case I wouldn't use a cap booster. Mostly because your cargohold is competing with ammo.

If it's armor then odds are you have a 2 reppers in which a cap booster would make sense. One repper would be stable and only run the other when necessary and use the booster.

cap stable T3 ships can solo any C3 anom when fit properly.

Using consumeables (except ammo) for PvE is silly.

To prove your point you could

Run sites for ~2 hours with passive regen fit, meansure your isk/hour
Run sites for ~2 hours with active cap fit and measure isk/hour

Calculate how much it costs you to use cap boosters per hour (factoring in buying them in HS and hauling them to wh / building them)

Figure out if it is worth hauling them in from highsec because they speed up site running so much that it easily co mpensates the extra time/effort. Remember your time has a value also its not 'free' if you produce them yourself.

eg. spend 1 hour of your time producing cap boosters saves you 25m
in that 1 hour you could have made 80m killing sleepers so you actually lost isk from building them as opposed to buying them.

tl:dr wormholes make more isk that most other activities in the game, buy what you need and farm isk from sleepers.

you cant be killing sleepers all the time, so if you can use that down time to produce cap boosters are they still not free?

oxandrolone is right though, do what all of us had to do and experiment, thats part of the fun

No they aren't free. They have a value in what they could be sold on the market.

They may not cost you any extra isk if you already have the materials to make them. But they have a value.

Yay for a basic understanding of opportunity cost! Also, as a rule cap boosters are used as a result of the threat of neuts. This is a big deal in PvP, but in PvE you can usually manage without if you do things right in a C3. I think there's ONE site there, and not an anom, where you come under major neut pressure.

C5s are a different matter, but then you're dealing with remote reps and fleets to run sites.

If you need boosters, you're probably not ready for W-space IMHO.

Thanks to all for posting. Basically I get it: the missiles and the cap boosters will compete for cargo space. Not to mention the logistical issues.

Funny story this one. Might even be Failblog worthy.

We were running C4 Black Holes. Because we were bawss. Or stupid. Our doctrine was MWD into range, web geddons. Used a truckload of cap charges.

Someone who will remain unnamed *cough* thought "hey lets build cap 800's in the ammo array we are using to store corp crap". How many u need, I asked. 10,000 came the reply.

Build 10,000.

Runs.

At 32m^3 each charge. And each run was 10 charges.

Yeah.

That was not one of the most amazing things i ever did inside a wormhole.
