How do I find/join a new corp? Anybody 'hiring'?

I've been playing off and on for 6 or so months. Most of my time has been spent offline as I got busy with life but I consistantly logged in to train new skills. I've focused on mining and most of my ores are at the highest level, or damn close. I focus on mining as I can read and study/research while my ship blasts away. Anyways I want to begin getting more into the game. How do I find and join a good corporation? Currentlly I'm still in the noob corp and I think I'm ready to move on. What are the perks of being in a real corp, what are the downsides, and lastly what is expected of corp memebers? I understand that the last question can vary from corp to corp but any answer would be appreciated.

If anyone is seeking someone, I am looking to continue mining. My current ship is a retriever with 2 strip miners, 3 mining upgrade 2s, and two cargo rigs and one cpu rig. I am looking for a corp in which I can help out but also have some freedoms to mine and do as I please. I'm not looking to be told what to fit and what to fly or train in.

As a person a little about me is that I'm 24. I like to read and write. I'm well versed in history, philosophy, religion, science, and I'm always open to learn new things. I can offer intelligent conversation and if I will be in this game a lot I seek a group of people with whom I can talk about interesting things with. As mentioned above I prefer mining (At least right now) as I can focus on my independent studies as my ship mines away. I know I'm probably providing more information than is needed but I seek a group or corp in which I can fit in.

For a miner, there's no real perks apart from having a corp chat channel, unfortunately. Having a group of people to chat with (who aren't career NPC corpers. ugh.) is fun enough, though, and if anyone's mining with an Orca they'll put up a fleet in fleet finder so you can join the fleet without asking. Noone's really going to restrict your gameplay. The 'downside' is that the corp is wardeccable, which is unlikely to happen and you can drop corp anyway vOv Nothing's expected of corp members in most highsec corps apart from logging in at least once a decade.

When a corp asks you to fly a certain ship or train into something, it's really only if they have a fleet doctrine, and that's just to keep everyone alive. It's only a pvp thing, anyway, and there are still options within a doctrine. Logi/dps/ewar etc. Even then, most corps wouldn't insist as long as you're doing something useful

Uh. Don't fit that, though. You don't need cargo rigs on a mining ship. Fit a damage control and an adaptive invuln to keep your ship alive

Curious you say "hiring" because it costs nothing to recruit or retain people in corporations.

That's the reason why they are so bloody big.

Anyways, hope you found a home!

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

Your gonna have a few problems.....

firstly you joins corps usually because of a shared goal, this means you will have to work with people and there will be some expectation on you to do certain things to help out. otherwise your just dead weight.

Your still fairly new so this will limit your options to corps that are recruiting specifically new people, this will often be because they are a newer corp themselves or they want members to have no pre-defined goals and can be molded to work towards the corps goals.
There are some teaching corps that will help you find your place in eve, but ultimately unless you start your own corp you will always be working for someone/something that is not your own.

finally that you play "on and off" doesn't exactly make you desirable to a corp. one of the things people want most from it's members is to be active. often you will find there are regular culls of inactive players from corps.

putting these things together and that your current profession seems to be mining i'd suggest that your probably best staying in your NPC corp, there are plenty of people there to speak with and get advice from, and you are free to work towards whatever it is you want.

maybe when you feel the need to be part of something more you should consider forming or joining a corp.
