Developer looking for a phone app idea

Hi everyone,

I'm a software developer and I've recently come to the conclusion that in order to be... better at what I do, I should have a broader background than just the one language and limited amount of things I ever do at work. So if I'm going to develop in my spare time, I want to develop things that I actually like. I want to make an Eve Online app for the Android market. I know there are already tons out there, but that's ok, I'm just looking for experience and the community can use whatever I happen to create. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to put in an app that may not be out there already? If worse comes to worst, I'll just come up with something that someone else has already come up with, but I figured I'd ask the community first.

By the way, my experience in Eve is not enormous. I've mainly done PvE stuff and played the market a little bit, but I've never gotten into the major part of the game - corporations, null sec, etc. But I think I have a pretty good understanding of how things work.

Can you make me an app that lets me AFK troll the forums?

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I have the Aurora app but I never even use it.

It has some market browse feature but there's nothing there.

I'd like a phone app for Eve that lets you manage your training skills, use the chat remotely, place buy and sell orders and make contracts (for starters).

But that's probably out of your reach and something CCP would have to do.

If they made something like that I wouldn't mind paying 2-3 euros a month extra for that service.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

How about a count-down for players who got banned? I am sure if those players could leave a comment they would all agree with this idea.

Then try taking a look at the EVE API at what data is available. You should get ideas pretty soon just from that. An app, which shows the wallet or one's market orders or contracts, would be everyone's favourite.

And last but not least, try the Features and Ideas Discussion section and the EVE Technology Lab.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

A “notify all the things!” app, perhaps?

Contracts failed or accepted? Notify!
Market orders changed? Notify!
Industry job status changed? Notify!
New notifications? Notify!

…there are quite a few apps out there that let you see the data, but few of them that make a proper racket when they change.

A decent fitting tool, while Aura has one it's not really easy to use.

Yep, and it seems like a mobile version of EVEMON, with some alarms, could do a lot of that.

Fully featured phone app that lets you play eve on a smartphone would be nice.

See you in 5 years. Lol

Is non-stop one line trolling becoming tedious?

neocoms is great with the latest update

After the patch we're giving the market some gentle supply restriction, like tying one wrist to the bedpost loosely with soft silk rope. Just enough to make things a bit more exciting for the market, not enough to make a safeword necessary.  -Fozzie

I wouldn't start any new development for EVE right now. CCP are currently going back and changing all their EULA related policies on third party apps. Your app might be within the EULA today, but tomorrow it might not be.

If you have to write it anyway, stick to the official API (things like cache scraping have been declared EULA-illegal by sreegs)

Hrm.... I don't know if Neocom does this or not, but what would be awesome is a skill planner with a real world graphical calender so you can figure out your skill plans on your phone.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

You do know he is looking to develop a MOBILE app right? What cache is there to scrape? While the API is changing you can apply to have early access to it NOW for development. However as it is in development it is a moving target but such is the way with any app that relies on API's to function.

I wish you the best and congratulate you on expanding your knowledge!

Wait for CCP to release the CREST API and you'll be able to do alot more with it. You could probably make the first out of game corp chat app....if CCP release it anytime soon What?

Basically a clone of Neocom (and its easy to use ship fitting screens) for Android would be the sex.

As the first Android app of that caliber I would be willing to pay for it.
