A reason to fly the Ferox solo or small gang

Hi,

I like the Ferox but I barely find a reason to fly it solo or in a small gang with 2 corp mates - compared to the Drake.

Blaster Ferox is overshadowed by the HAM Drake. More or less equal damage, more range flexibility, no cap usage. Same when comparing Rail Ferox and HM Drake.

I see two aspects speaking for the Ferox:

- Instant damage: important in bigger groups and medium to long range combat. In small gang I'd prefer the better damage projection of HMs.

- Blapping: a HM Drake doesn't do much damage against small ships at range. Turrets do max damage as long transversal is low. Same for the close range variants. A blaster Ferox can blap a frig on approach or when busy with a fleet mate. Problem: in small gang or solo smaller ships are able to focus on said Ferox and manage it under it's guns. Keeping transversal low is harder in this situation. Missiles again seem more flexible here.

Am I missing something? Caldari gun boats nice in fleets but meh when solo / small gang?

ferox is also a lot easier to fit

a HAM drake requires either expensive implanting or AWU V to work better in terms of tank and dps.

Blaster Ferox is decent if you want a shield tanked blasterboat, it does offer some distinct advantages over the Brutix in far improved tank/better slot layout for shield tanking and excellent projection with null.

Medium railguns are still massively fail so I would stay away from them for PvP.

The Rail ferox can do 400 dps up to 27+15 km excluding drones while fielding a 70k ehp tank with a good res profile.

Its not a very good boat for small gang **** but for most fleets 400 dps at 30km is way better than 600 at 15? Its a great little boat, not the best but not bad at all.

(Still medium rails could use a bit of a buff)

Beams don't need a buff in terms of damage/range, what they need is their ridiculous fitting brought down a notch.

400dps at 30km is actually pretty good for medium railguns, but when compared to the drake...500dps @ 40km with fury and max range up to 60km it does fall quite short. but still rails have the inherent advantages of guns which are quite valuable in PvP, a buff to medium rail damage would probably go a long way to make them viable.

Its 450 with furies but... That is furies


The ferox will hit a cruiser for 400 dps at 30 km, a drake with furies will hit for significantly less and the dps is delayed.

So they are quite comparable.

Drake is generally better than the ferox. You aren't imagining things OP.
