CCP: We NEED a more interactive mining experience!

More interactive mining would actually be nice. It'd make botting much more difficult, and non-botting miners would mine fewer hours per week on average, which would drive mineral prices up.

It just has to be made more interactive in a different way from the one that the OP proposed.

Mining is fine the way it is.

No it isn't. Whenever I mine, I do so semi-AFK. I alt+tab out of my client to read emails or use Facebook, and frequently I get up and leave the computer for a few minutes to make a sandwich or use the bathroom.

I do that because I can. Because the badly designed game mechanics lets me.

except, mining is fine the way it is.
you haven't actually pointed out a single way in which mining is broken.
all you've identified is that mining lasers cycles last longer than say, an autocannon's.

Not sure interactive is the word you're looking for...
When I saw interactive I immediately thought: Minigame and/or quick time event

which is an even worse suggestion than the one in the op.

You are soooo wrong on this. Bots will master interactive mining in a day and miners will hate it with a passion forever.

I can't see any way to fix mining that doesn't involve making it into some sort of minigame.

"Quick time events" sounds like it's a twitch thing, and EVE is not a twitch game. And if it becomes one, them I'll unsubscribe and never come back, because I specifically like EVE because it's not twitchy.

Change for the sake of change, just to be changing something is ignorant, as highlighted by everything the OP stated.

Now, I don't know if you're ignorant or not, I would have to examine the evidence.

Lets see....

You mine, yet you don't like it. It allows you to do too much other stuff...

So.. you're playing a game and playing it in such a way that you find it lacking in enjoyment, yet you play it.

Since you cannot seem to get over the mental hurdle of NOT mining, which obviously why wouldn't you mine since you're so dissatisfied with it you should definitely keep doing it, BUT... you also cannot dream up a way to make mining more exciting, i.e., go mine somewhere more dangerous.

So, the obvious solution here is to change the game mechanics because YOU specifically cannot stop playing a game in a manner that makes you unhappy.

I'm not saying you're ignorant, but the evidence seems to be.

I'm not the ignorant. I'm the one, of the two of us, who is able to read. Go back and actually read what I wrote. I only mine very little. And the reason I mine very little is because it's dumbly non-interactive and very low-profit.

What?!?! I don't even...

More interactive mining??? 60 second cycle is more interactive than 120 second (ice?)??? How about BC and BS rats in belts known to have high density of miners? That interactive enough for you?

Bad troll attempt, man. If you can't post anything serious or particularly innovative, don't waste the bandwidth, Tom. It's not funny anymore.

Too bad this board doesn't have a thumbs-up/thumbs down mechanism...

Odd, I would have entered the last sentence as "I do that because I can. Because the well designed game mechanics lets me."
That's the entire idea behind mining. Its supposed to let you do other things while keeping you on-line. You stay on-line doing something a little profitable and are thus available if something bigger comes up. CCP specifically designed it to work like that.

Bots are no longer going to be the mining problem. Semi AFK mining is not a problem, you one or two account miners who sit on empire ice are nobodies.

When CCP is going to make a change, CCP is going to think about the guys who really do the serious mining in this game, those are the multi-boxers. These are the guys with 5-40 accounts (yes there are people with 40 accounts) running ISBoxer, those are accounts that go poof with joystik controller style mining.

End thread now - you just lost - CCP is not going to part with that subscription base.

If the ships remained cap stable simular to what they are now and AFK'able sorta they way they kinda are now, then I would side with the Seasoned PVP/Mission runner OP here that can be found in mission chan often.
