high sec ambush technique for noobs

hi all,

been playing a few weeks. i really wanted to get into ambushing in high sec but found that unless i had trained up covert ops etc, cloaking was pretty useless for ambushing given the sensor recalibration time, so i came up with this method for ambushing, no cloaking device needed, no suicide gank alt needed, completely noob friendly. it's a variation on the can flipping technique. apologies if this a well known trick

1. find an asteroid belt in a busy mining sector, 0.9 and 1.0 is best as the miners are less likely to have combat drones.
2. make sure no one is around then jettison something juicy but not too obvious. mining upgrades or something that a miner might jettison. bookmark this can.
3. make sure you jettison about 20km from the nearest asteroid. you'll see why in a bit.
4. now fly either directly up or directly down from your can
5. keep flying until you go "off grid". this is when you are no longer visible to someone in the previous bit of space, usually around 250-300km from the nearest object in that area. you will know you are off grid when you can no longer see asteroids on your overview (make sure you have your overview or or a tab set to show asteroids)
6. now right click on your can bookmark and set to "align to". this will point you towards your can. it will also start you moving towards it so make sure you don't fly back "on grid". hit stop when you are pointing towards it and make sure you can't see asteroids on your overview.
7. now use your directional scanner at a 5 degree setting. uncheck "use active overview settings". what you want to do here is pick up your can on the scan and just your can. if it picks up the asteroid belt too, the ambush won't work. the reason you dropped the can 20km out from the belt is so you can pick it up on the scanner without picking up the belt. you want be able to catch people that are right up close to your can and not people that are ignoring your can and just mining in the belt. the logic is that if someone has travelled to your can there is a good chance they will steal from it if the loot is decent and they think no one is around.
8. now the boring part, you need to keep hitting the scan button until you catch a player as well as your can. in a busy system you shouldn't have to wait long.
9. warp to your bookmark immediately, by the time you get there a few seconds later you should be on top of a valid kill target! if they haven't stolen from the can, you haven't lost anything. you also know beforehand on the d-scan what ship they are flying so you can pick your fight.

again, apologies if this is a well known technique. Pirate

it was a well known tactic back before Can flipping became a thing of the past.

No miner in it's right mind will now take a can and risk going suspect.

On a side note... thank you for making me aware of your corp...

Miners are rarely in their right mind.
