College student trying to play game without paying for most months...

...About 3 months til u can afford (if you work hard and long) a plex a month, 4 or 5 if you're a slow learner.
Everyone is correct though. I was plexing at 3 months in but now i pay by choice, prefering to spend my in-game time doing things i want to do rather than knowing i "have to" log in and farm npc's for 5 hours of my day.

Really, nobody here is being elitest. A huge number of people burn out trying to fund the game with plex and it's a waste of probably the deepest game you have ever played.

Feel free to contact me by mail if you have any questions. I'll be happy to take you through anything you might be wondering and will do my best to put you in touch with the right people for what you like to do.

Fly safe.

I'd recommend looking into PI (planetary interaction). If you spend 30-45 days to train the basic skills on all three account slots you can have a steady, mostly passive income that can go a long way to plexing an account. I'd guess that highsec would provide you with about 1/2-3/4 of a plex per month, while running 5x3 PI planets in lowsec can easily give you 1+ plex per month, provided you can manage lowsec logistics.

The daily effort is less than 15 minutes per day even if you run this kind of operation with 3 alts, 1-2 times a week you'd have to collect your product from the planets (which doesn't take long either, but requires you to be in the system) and around once a month you'd have to pay someone to haul your stuff to a trading hub (or haul it yourself) - overall a very low maintenance endeavour.

However, you should be aware that during the first 30-45 days of training your entire account will be good for absolutely no fun activities whatsoever...

A simple stroll down to the plasma donation center once a month will support your online gaming habits.

Dont know if anyone has mentioned it, but if you put in the 3-4 months to get a decent tengu+skills (maybe an extra 20 to buy a PLEX for sale on market to buy the tengu) you can join a C5/C6 wormhole alliance, that for the most part can get you 150mil PER NIGHT with only 3-4 hours of sites, i know many people who fund DOZENS of free accounts from high end wormholes.

the only downside to this is you WILL be expected to occasionally log on for pvp to assist the alliance, but thats just the price you have to pay for high-end income. (and the pvp is usually slow paced enough that you can do other stuff, enter system cloak for a few hours while fleet builds, kill roaming gang in 5-minute battle, AFK shoot POS, log out in hole, log on next day, kill POS, go home).

also if you join a mercenary womrhole alliance you can often times get paid for the pvp very well, depending on the target the price can be p to 200mil per pilot per day.

Vincent R'lyeh: I meant the reason I'd enjoy this game over any other is that I can still play it somewhat when I'm doing homework, or something else. I don't have to be 100% active every single day for a couple hours. Ya, when I've got free time I'd definitely do something more exciting like exploring or pvp, but there is that option of mining or reasoning if I need to be AFK, even if it is just for chump change.

I will tell you my experience with AFK mining. I rejoined Eve recently and work from home some times. So I thought like you - I could AFK mine while I was busy working.

OK, Retriever, a couple strip minters, a couple mining drones and a hobgob or two to keep rats off, veld/scord in high sec. I would be busy on one computer working and look over to where Eve was running every 10 min or so to restart lasers or move.
If I recall, I think I made about 5m ISK per hour. Of course, i wasn't being efficient or have great mining skills (mining sux but that is a different thread).

Did it work? Yes
Do I still do it? No
Would I do it again? No
Do I recommend it? No

I think if money is that tight, you should skip a meal one day per week and put that money in a jar. At the end of the month, you can buy your Plex. Bonus is you will lose weight and the girls will like you better!

Just about anything will make enough for a PLEX in a month if you do it well. If you plan to be AFK all the time you're probably going to get suicide ganked a lot. Also, god will kill a kitten.

Also. How do you expect to become better in EVE if you play it AFK.

I usually do what J'Poll said.

Just mine to earn ISK for more important stuff like skills, upgrades, ships, etc. and then go an play the game.
I thought it would be fun a few days ago when I got into EVE, but I realized that I would be spending a month just grinding and grinding for what? Another month to grind while I could be having fun.

Unless you DO like mining (which is actually kind of rare), then it is a different story.

I like mining and industry when I want to relax. That being said, mining and industry simply isn't designed for PLEXing unless your pretty ingenious at it. Since I rank somewhere along the lines of your local icecream store clerk rather than Bill Gates in terms of business sense, here is my advice.

Spend 10 hours a day for 10 days straight mining to PLEX

or

Spend 10 hours a day killing multiple miners for a weekend to PLEX

or

throw 50 cents a day into a cup. Every 30 days empty said cup and use $15 saved to PLEX. 50 cents a day can be saved merely by not purchasing a can of soda. Or in the case of Starbucks... skip one coffee a month.... PROFIT and much less time spent doing it.

Don't try to tell me a college student can't afford $15 a month. I know what you will end up spending on beer. You can't fool me. Pirate
