Using gate camping as the sole example of low sec pvp /o\

Terrible.

Is that not 90% of low sec fights?.

Ok, i'll mention the other glorious 10%.

Ganking a pve fit ratting ship.

Ganking a pve fit exploration vessel in a site you pre-probed.

Ganking a pirate who is ganking a pve vessel.

If people stopped bringing their terrible PvE fit ships into lowsec we'd stop ganking them :)

Lies! You'd still gank well fit pvp ships... much like I would. It's just the target may actually be able to fight back without making me wet myself laughing.

I'm pretty sure this is a moderately nice attempt at trolling so i'm not gona give much of a reply but..

Anyone who thinks lowsec is all gate camping and ganking bears clearly has not spent a lot of time in low sec.

I believe those like me are the real hardcore players. I have a less than admirable KB is viewed at a glance with attention only to the inital numbers. 104 losses to 42 kills is my current standing. Not great at first, but as you look close you will see that the VAST majority of my kills are solo and in low sec and often against ships that are considered more powerful. I taught myself to PVP with no corp to hold my hand and no gang to pull my ass out. Even with the 104 losses my loss of isk compared to my isk destroyed is a few tenths of a percent off 50/50. I knowingly risk high end ships and lose them just for the adrenalin Rush that comes with the event. **** the carebears, **** the coward pirates that are afraid to fight without a superior numbers, remote reps, and an Alliance backing them up.

The second reason I am hardcore: I am US Army, *****, and not a radio operator or a truck driver, I am combat arms, the mothafucker that gets shot at and blown up. Thanks for reading. :)

Where does grinding sov fit into this spectrum of hardcore? Who's harder? The Inty pilots? Logi jockeys? The fleet doctrine BS rank-and-file? Dread dickheads? Carrier monkeys?
(Notice I left out the titan jump bridge trolls.)

Awaiting input.

IMO 'Hardcore' defines HOW you play eve not what you actually do in eve.

This applied to pirating, missions, exploration or whatever.

Hardcore is about intensity of activity. You log in and grind lvl 4 missions for hours on end, never stopping - hardcore.
You gate camp a low sec entry for hours attacking almost everything coming through - hardcore.
You spend hours moving spheres around the system map to find that juicy complex to run for nice shiny lootz - hardcore.

That is very different to the risk accepting, risk takers and the risk averse. You can be any combination of the risk profiles and hardcore at the same time.

IMO

Risk taker + hardcore :
These are your career soloists (Ture solo, not boosted, alted to the max) Yes they do exist.
Also your Fight generators in pvp corps who are constantly out looking ofr fights or organiseing fleets for roams, raid etc.

Risk Accepting + Hardcore:
These are you low sec and null ninja explorers. They put in hours of 'work' in hostile space to find the nice lootz. They accept the risks by being out there but they don't go looking for risk and they try to minimise the chances they'll get caught.

Risk Averse + Hardcore:
High sec mission runners in blinged out boats. Yes there is a risk of ganking or war deccing but it is very minimal and if there is any inkling that this is going on they dock up.

I'm not comenting on whether I think these are good or bad, just different ways of defining what is 'hardcore'

I myself am in the casual risk taker category generally. When in game I'm generally out ther trying to get fights (consensual or not) and actively put my ship/pod on the line to have a fight. Some are good fights against competent opponents others are ganks against the more bearlike population.
I am Risk Averse + Hardcore right now, but am/wanting to moving slowly into Risk Accepting + Hardcore.

I would like to point out that you left out a group... highsec gankers under the Risk Averse + Hardcore. Blink
