Have not played in a good long while, logged in hopped in my raven and grabbed a level 4 mission. Went to the mission and was blown to hell and back a few minutes in... Had my hardeners and shield booster going and was just ripped to shreds.

So i pulled out my trusty domi, not much better. Had enough time to loot my wreck and scoot out before losing that ship too.

What exactly did i miss? Both of these are very straightforward ships to pilot with good tanks that have always handled level 4 missions fine now all of a sudden im getting eaten alive.

Remember which hardeners go with which mission?

Remember which ships are the triggers for next wave?

All NPCs have the updated AI now so there is now potential for you to have been overwhelmed by changed aggro mechanics.

You probably pulled full room aggro before you expected it.

Besides that the damage amounts haven't changed.

Pirates finally upgraded from fireworks and strobe lights to missiles and lasers. They realized they could not sustain a multi million Battleship pirate empire if every mission had a 100% casualty rate and no victories.

A pirate spokesman when asked what was next for modern piracy stated that they were going to explore the possibility of drones, damage mods, logistics, neuts, damage controls, different ammo types and warp interdiction on every ship. There is also talk of letting their captains warp out in hull if they aren't scrammed.

These strategies stem from a new plan the pirates have been trying out in which they recruit new people who are not mentally ret@rded. An advantage they have never had before now. Only time will tell if it is effective.

New AI wouldn't effect your raven if you were solo. I would look into other thugs mentioned here. Did you pull room aggro? Did you use the right type of hardeners? Are you just rusty? Knowing how long you have been goons would help pinpoint specific changes.

There have also been added a few new missions, which are a cut above the regular ones in difficulty level.

When those were first released, my trusty drake, which soloed just about any mission in it's sleep suddenly had to wake up and start doing some evasive maneuvering.

Does railgun ammunition come in Hollow Point?

How was your Raven equipped? Many things have changed.

Not a diplo.

Had to quote. A like simply was not sufficient. This gets my vote for best post of the year.

Well its gone now but as i recall i started with this and its pretty close.

It was a drone mission and there where a ton of drones but that was never a problem before in my drake maybe having to warp out once or twice but with my domi just aggroing everything and unleashing the drones was how i lived in level 4s for a while and this has never happened.

Last i really played was 2011.

There are some very nasty L4s. I lost a Domi in a drone mission (I wish I could remember the name), and when I came back the drones I'd left behind had shot all the triggers. There were probably a dozen battleships on field, and plenty of smaller support. I wound up getting through it in a Megathron cap-buddied with a friend's Nightmare, and even then we had to warp out twice.

Also, I'm not sure when the cruise missile nerf landed, but they're not able to hit anything small. The Raven is no longer the premiere mission boat, nor the premiere battleship. If anything it was nerfed so hard that hardly anyone flies them. if you fly Caldari, look at the Scorpion Navy Issue or the Tengu. The Domi is still a good mission boat, and a good all-around ship, but it's as skill-intensive as ever.

With some L4s, you want to have more than one ship. With some of them, you really want to be careful with triggers. EVE Survival is your friend.

Hmm the whole reason i skilled up for the raven was because of how boring missioning is in the domi.

Using drones in missions isn't exactly boring anymore. Smile

I generally prefer a blaster Megathron for that exact reason. (If you can fly a T3, those make missions somewhat more fun as well--kite all the things!)

But that one mission suddenly became really exciting for the Domi...

Doesn't "Raven" give it away? Hardly the most amazing ship in the universe, and with more intelligent AI and a rusty player (admitted being new after a while off), it's not beyond the imagination that the OP had just lost his edge a little.

Give a man a match and you warm him for a day.

Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life!

Since you are just back, try out the new Micro Jump Dive. Makes level 4s easy for a missile/sentry boat. Warp away, shoot, repeat.

If I ever go back to running missions, i am positive that it will take a while before I dare to take anything that haves the slightest chance of scrambling my ship. Haven't really run missions since early 2012 and i'm not just rusty, but I fear my fits are outdated (sp. as today micro jump drives are like standard for BS).

Reading the comments, it appears that my cruise Golem is a lost cause too...

After a three year hiatus, I came back and am running L4s in my Raven Navy Issue. The drone aggro changes were a bit unsettling at first, but I remembered to ALWAYS review Eve-Survival before fitting for any mission, and mission running is good again. It sounds like you were on one of the missions where each initial ship triggers a series of spawns. For those, as Eve-Survival makes clear, you have to be sure to take out just one spawn chain at a time. If you ever want a tip on missions in game, feel free to convo me. Good luck and welcome back!
