There seems to be a lot of new faces this week.

In case any of you don't know about this:

TRAIN DESTROYERS AND BATTLECRUISERS TO L5 ASAP!

The skill books are changing with the next expansion, so any time around now will be the deadline to get this done.

Full details here: http://community.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&nbid=74234

I think it works out about 5m sp you will get overnight.

To be honest, for a brand new character that's a very bad idea. In the time it'll take to do that, they could have trained core skills, frigate skills, support skills, probably a cruiser and be having fun.

Sure, train BCs and destroyers when practical, but certainly don't train them to the exclusion of skills needed now and for new characters don't get the idea that you have to stick your character in a station and train for two ship skills for a month or more before anything else, that's the fastest way to have new people quit.

^^ At least they don't have to do the learning skills first as well!

But maybe you're right and l4 would be a good target at this point.

Also you wont get any extra SP by just training BC and destroyer skills. You also need to train more than one race frigate and cruiser skills.

It's not been nice, but thanks for using lube

Yup.
You need Frigs to 4 and Cruisers to 3.

Get hazed. There is no reason for a newbie to train those. The only reason there is a run on it is because people like you are shouting stupid ****.

It will tie up their skill queue's for so long, that a lot more usefull skills could have been trained in that time. Newbies are not bitter yet, I'd like to keep it that way.

Ovv.

How much I like your advice.

This time I must agree with the guy I quote.

1.) This is nothing New Citizen related.

2.) This will force new players into a train for something they can't immediately use or it will result in horrible losses (as they rushed into BC thinking they can train it).

3.) This is totally unrelated to new players. For what they know, the future system is how it works. I was part of the learning skill era, yet, if you start now, you don't need to know that your first month then was training those things to get the same stats you have now.

My advice to new players.

DO NOT rush into the Dessy / BC train. Play EVE like you want. Play EVE so you have fun. Train what you must train to achieve the 2 things mentioned before. If that means that eventually you have to train the 4 racial BC skills instead of rushing into the 4 cruisers now and the BC skill, then so be it.

i'm confused. are you saying that if you train these up that when the skills are refunded from the change you will have 5 million skill points to spend as you please?

Not at all.
But after the change you will have to train all 4 Desi's and BC's separately.
Which will take about 5 months all in all.
Before the change you can do it in around 1 month.
The link explains it.

Edit: I see everyone's point about balancing your skills.
But if I was starting out now, I'd definitely pause my core skills for a couple of weeks to save 5 months training later on.
No doubt.

[rant]Learning skills all over again...[/rant]

Don't do something in EVE just because someone told you. Read the devblog, make some extra research, consider your goals and plain accordingly.

Personally I was already 'crosstrained enough' before these changes were proposed so the end result is that I will get most of the benefits of the changes with minimal training adjustment(and in part i will train less or train some skills later). Maybe Im not the better people to tell other that rushing BC V may not be a good idea but for some characters it can be a waste of training time.

Couldn't agree more!

Oh and: When you've finished 'plaining accordingly' and achieved a nice smooth surface, plan accordingly as well.Blink Just to be sure.Big smile

I don't think this is the best idea for a brand new player. There are many other skills of all types they need to try out to decide how they wish to play in the long run.

I know the intent is good, but this advice would apply to the 5m-10sp crowd I think.

I don't see the big rush to train BC5 even for experienced players. If you were planning to train BC to 5 anyway then yes of course do it now rather than later and you'll get all 4 racials for "free". But if you weren't planning to train BC5 and don't fly BC/CS then there's no reason to train it at all. SP total means nothing, except a more expensive clone.

While mostly true, there are a few notable exceptions:

1. DO NOT undock in something you cannot afford to lose.
2. DO NOT pay anyone a "corp background check fee" (or whatever the scam is these days)
3. DO NOT trust that the "OMG THIS IS AN AWESOME DEAL TO SELL A WORTHLESS ITEM" is really what it seems to be
4. RTFC (Read The ******* Contract ... especially when "pack 1, 100 million - sold already" "pack 2, 100 million -- sold already" "pack 3 -- 1 billion")

(probably others, but you get the drift)

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Ah...the amount of arguments I've had with people who insist that you train BC5 even if you're a month old.

Here is my advice...

If you are going to PVP in battlecruisers train it to IV. Make sure you train appropriate frigate IV and cruisers III for the races you want to fly.
If you have time (i.e. going on hol, nothing else to train yet) and think the extra DPS that BC5 will give is worth the training time OR will be looking to skill into Command Ships then train BC5 before the patch.

Destroyers, train to IV unless you are looking to skill into Interdictors then train to V.

Dont ffs waste a month of training time for a skill which you will not use.

There are more important things to train for a newb than having 4 races worth of Destroyers and Battlecruisers in their inventory, which they won't be able to use effectively in a long time anyway.

So I'd strongly advise against it. What you need now is more important than what you might or might not use next year. Bear

I fail to see any exception, I see advice that people will follow because they consider good (or not follow and give someone else delicious tears™).
