Hello folks,

You all probably see this thread a billion times, but I figure I'd give it try. I'm new (obviously), and want to know the best path to take in order to reach my goal of being a pirate. Yarr.

Anyway, I'm not looking to join a corp just yet, and if I do in the future, I'd like it to be a very, very casual pirate corp. In the meantime, I'd like to try my hand at solo pirating, or pirating with my buddy, who is getting EVE this week. Obviously I don't have the skills and isk to venture into lowsec, let alone nulsec, anytime soon, but what's the best way to get it?

Currently I'm just doing some mining, ratting, and mission running to fund all the skillbooks I'm buying, and ships I'm fitting. Is this the right approach? And based on my existing skills, what in particular should I be focusing on? Finally, I've got a few ships, including a Venture for mining, a Rifter for future pirating, a Tristan, and an Atron (both initially bought for PVP, but now just sitting in dry dock as the Rifter is apparently the go-to frigateUgh). I'm wondering, should I stick with the Rifter for pirating, or get a destroyer now that I have the isk-flow and skills?

Thanks all!

do all the tutorial missions for a bit of ISK (AURA, Starter Agents, SoE Epic Arc), and then HTFU and go to lowsec.

ANY ship can be good (especially with the recent tiericide of frigs), so a lot of the older guides (anything pre-inferno for the most part) may be somewhat out of date. One of the big reasons people like the Rifter is that it can be a little farther out than the Tristan/Atron, and may have slightly higher GTFO ability when things go wrong.

Easiest primer for skills will be to get the ones that fulfill the requirements for the recommended certificates for the ship(s) you intend to fly.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Thanks!

I did the initial tutorial missions, with that blue woman, and I've done the basic military arc. Where do I find those others you mention?

And in regards to the above posting, I do know that getting out there and subjecting myself to a trail by fire is the best method to train myself in PVP. I'd just rather make sure I had a good amount of ISK, and plenty of skills trained, before I start doing anything that might affect my security status.

One more question for you all; when/if I get podded, I lose my implants plus some skill points, unless I've got an upgraded clone, correct?

If you have the financial ability to, I highly recommend buying a GTC, converting to a PLEX and selling the PLEX. That's enough ISK for you to enjoy the game the way you want to, rather than grinding stuff you hate to make money. By the time you've burned through the couple of hundred ships a PLEX will buy you, you'll be a pretty damn good pirate.

On sec status, if you're going to be a pirate, don't worry about it. Go lose it as fast as you can!

When podded you always lose your implants. If your clone doesn't cover your current skillpoint total, you lose some skillpoints. Always have your clone up to date. Always. It should be the very first thing you do after you get podded.

If you are planning to use exspensive implants and do a fair amount of PVP you will want to get a couple of jump clones set up. This way you can safetly PVP in a clone with few/no implants or hardwires.
I know there is a few corps out there that you can join to get jump clones, but i dont know the name off them Sad

Other ways are joining a corp that has standings for jump clones, or grind enough standings on your own with a corp that has stations with medical. And ofc outposts in 0.0 if you end up joining a 0.0 corp Smile

More information about jump clones can be found here; http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Jump_Clones

Since pretty much everyone will have much more SP and better ships than you as a newbie, you really should think about joining a good corp so you can fleet up. Plus that way you'll have people to teach you.

Same system as the basic military career agent. There'll be the exploration, industry, business and advanced military. Do all of them, you get ships, skill books and an introduction to those areas in the game.

About two thirds of the way down this long page of podcasts:

http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/EVE_University_Class_Library

There is an excellent 'Piracy Q&A' with a bunch of pirate CEO's.

Should give you a few pointers.

Harden the **** up <-- This is why we love CCP Smile

Pretty much don't be afraid of bad things (tm) happening.

I completely agree with everyone else saying a corp can help you learn things -- and especially help you deal with losing ships. While you may see the 1.5 mil you're dopping on a frigate as "a lot" ... a corp can be like "yeah, here's 10... let's go kill these bastards".

Run missions and train train train skills at the start. Find a group of guys to fly with. A corp or a loose affiliation of like minded players. Use the public channels, join corporation chat channels in your area. The biggest thing about eve is that it is ever evolving. The game is more of an alternate reality in fictional space than a game really. The actions of those around you as well as your actions can and will have an impact on your game play.

I have recently come back to the game after about 8 months and wow, things have changed. However certain rules apply now just like they always did.

When you are going to get into pew pew matches with other players keep these points in mind

  • never fly any ship you cannot afford to lose. The ship you are in is already blown up, its just a matter of time
  • don't take it personally, its a game, the pixels are just pixels Pirate
  • be courteous in local when you blow up, or when you blow someone else up, a GF in local or something like that is always well received
  • make friends, everybody is playing to have fun, so lets have fun.

  • Now I must post this and go in search of whatever the heck it means to be a suspect or criminal.... I have missed 2 patches and someone has modified my ships in my absence. Twisted
