Eve, 14 to 30 Days free to play for everyone with upcoming expansion

With the upcoming expansion well on it's way. I was thinking about all of the "Former" Eve players who dropped over the years.

Several years back CCP sent out an offer to players who's accounts had lapsed. I believe it was 7 or 14 days free play. This was designed to allow them to check out the new features in the expansion.

How about taking take a step further?

After the summer expansion is released. Make Eve free for 14-30 days for every player, active or not. If you have ever paid for a sub your account would be eligible for it. New players signing up would get an additional 14-30 days added to their after subbing.

This would be a great PR stunt as well as potentially bringing in customeers who for whatever reason have stopped playing.

Yes it would mean a drop in their income for a bit but the overall goal of bringing in new as well as old players back would far outweigh the short drop in income. The influx of returning and new players as a result of this kind of offer would be great.

I have several friends who once played Eve and may very well be persuaded into playing again. They just need a little prodding. A free renewal trial might be just what is needed.

Which name is it you want back from an alt account which isn't subbed? P

*Edit* Sure why not, I like free stuff!

It takes much less than 30 days to become bored with EVE (again). 7 days is ok term to force account re-activation or yet another multi-month hiatus.

Makes sense for an EVE 10th Anniversary gift, rather than another stupid virtual trophy item for Sturmwolke's Museum of Art.

The EVE economy infrastructure interferes with monetization of virtual pixels, it puts a leash on what CCP can or cannot do.
Hypothetically, if they can successfully decouple certain perks (e.g. personal paint job) similar to the WoT economy, weekly or monthly offers (that seems to keep the game alive) could be possible.

No please don't. Just do a 7 day offer to inactives. There's no point giving the free sample to people who are already hooked, however much they ***** and whine, it won't change anything and they won't unsub over it.

Watch what they do, not what they say. But don't leak it with an internal newsletter again and don't try and **** against the wind. CCP is doing a good job at the moment.

I'd just prefer a red velvet smoking jacket for lounging around the Captains Quarters, with a big golden "10" on the back.

And a pickled Sheep head on the CQ wall. THORRABLOT forever !!!! Blink

Giving out 14 days free to every -active- eve player in the game, (Last figure was what, 450k active accounts), would cost CCP roughly 3.6 million USD in potential revenue. sorry, too tired to convert to Ice-Dollars, or Lutfisk or whatever their currency is. Doesn't seem like good business sense to me. 7day resub to long expired accounts (over 6 months expired) sounds like a good idea to me.

Sure I'd like some free money from CCP for no personal effort but I don't see how I could reasonably argue in favour of it.

Enable 7-14 days on inactive accounts. Gift these accounts a special Nexus store item. The item should be salable on the market for the isk cost of a PLEX.

Bitter Vets get to dump their isk on a limited collector's item, Re-Subs have the opportunity to play for a month via the PLEX, CCP gets moar PLEX sales or at least a reduction in the PLEX supply.

So... You want CCP to go completely without income for 30 days?

You want their staff to be unpaid over that time aswell? No? Oh, in which case you want them to make redundancies then. No? Oh.. okay.. well maybe they could just not buy the new equipment they need for dying servers or upgrades. Oh, you want the server to stay running? No that then. In which case use your damn brain you idiot.

If anything I'd like CCP to take more of my money. No more of these half arsed patches pawned off as "free expansions"

Give me a proper expansion.

Put the whole dev team on it. Add full avatar interaction. Fill nullsec with what the nullsecers want. Pirate hubs or whatever it was.

Just put an army of devs on the game and do all the things you want to do but haven't been able to motivate due to financial restraints and then box it as an expansion at $60. I'll buy it.

I've done this before with companies I've worked for, we sent out about 100,000 emails with free account re-activations for a month. We got a decent return on people coming back, although many didn't stay it was still worth it.

But re-activating everyone who's been expired for 6 months or more for either 14 or 21 days (equivalent to them taking an [extended] trial) seems like a perfectly good idea to me.

Had to read this a couple of times ...

You know you've played EvE too long when...

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

This... in a CD expansion set, $60 or whatever... and don't forget the "Special Edition Red Velvet Smoking Jacket".

Reach down and squeeze 'em, CCP, because if you can make a video about pickled sheep balls, you can do anything. BlinkBlink
