That's great news but...

... do programmers who have Python, LAMP and Visual Studio installed also risk being flagged by those detection routines?

Because I'd kinda hate to be banned because of my (now former) job.

Does me having both VMware and VirtualBox running several virtual machines be a problem? Some of those virtual machines also run a couple dozen nested virtual machines.

Should I be worried?

actually I'm pretty sure there is a Sreegs quote (some CSM minutes?) rgd how he doesn't give a **** about legit users who run EVE inside a VM.

(edit: actually that's ambiguous... I meant "doesn't give a ****" as in "doesn't give a **** about their interests and continued business")

I've watched so many dirty movies, that I can now only enjoy dirty movies when they are on the television, or computer screen, within a dirty movie. Doesn't matter if the actors are watching it or not, though.

Should I be worried?

Good work CCP!

Personally I don't care if they catch 10, 100 or 1000 bots, EVERY single botter caught makes EVE a better place.

As long as CCP doesn't take suspicious IP behavior and dubious proxy programs in general as a sign of players doing something wrong, I don't mind.

No something like this is more likely to show up as sharing your account with someone, which if I recall correctly is also against the EULA

I hereby declare that all of CCP is allowed to watch the porn on my harddisk.

hahaha nice work, Team Security!

Only thing that tastes a bit shallow is that these kind of things mostly get public before fanfest.

But whatever, keep it up!

I will happily admit that I often read many of the forums that botters frequent in hope that one day it will be full of outrage and anger when CCP target their bot.

Well I have been a very happy boy of late :)

Reading the forums of people who use a Reg Guard has been truly epic.

Well don't be a tease, share the goodness!

I should probably delete my Questor folder (or at least the binaries) so as not to incur Sreegs' wrath by accident... but I can't imagine CCP banning people for the mere act of having common dev tools (such as Visual Studio) installed and so far no report mentions false positives of this sort.

Not really. I just checked a The Forge ice system and found the same number of people in local that there was in the last weeks.

Absolutely loving it. Good job Team Security.

Is wishing for real life violence against the bot-creators to happen against the EULA? Or is that just other players and devs?

Yep. Can't wait until they apply this principle to game mechanics themselves.

Hey Dark, can you send me the links in-game to this character? I'm always looking for new sites to visit and report on.

It would really be cool if, when hit with a ban hammer, the offender was flung into deep space. I want the station to shake when they are thrown out. I want them flung from their POS!

As another poster has already stated, in the UK you do not have to show any proof to the HMRC, all you have to do is fill out a very simple form on their website stating that you believe this person is not declaring an income and your reasons why.

So for example let say CCP contact HMRC stating that x person has been banned as they are involved in RMT.. i.e selling in game items for real life money then trust me, HMRC will investigate that person.

Once HMRC sniff there might be even a small outside chance that you have an undeclared income they will not stop until you show at the very least 12 months history off all your bank accounts and are able to account for all the money coming in.

A very good friend of mine was reported to HMRC for selling items on ebay and he was not declaring it as a income just over a year ago.

He had to prove to the HMRC that all the items he was selling were items that he had personally owned and that he was not buying and selling items at a profit via ebay.

Considering he had been selling items for quite a few years it took months to sort out and involved a lot of worrying as he was potentially facing a very big fine and tax bill.

As I have said, if the HMRC even get the slightest of hints they can screw somebody, they will take it.

Same in germany, those guys can be like bloodhounds.

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

If it's such good news, then there will be an official CCP source you can cite instead of the head of goon propaganda.

I find it interesting that Mittens knew all the details (exact software, bans, and etc.) in great detail.

Mittens writes the WHOLE site by hand, it's just him, a dark room, a keyboard and 2.4lbs of MDMA.

You are of course assuming that the person who has the account is actually the person who is playing the game.

Dont you think that they might do the RMTs to someone other than the EVE account holder. Shocked

Just my little bit Big smile

But still great news that even if the tax man dont get em they are not in EVE anymore. \o/

Whilst I doubt that CCP can do anything legally to you if you are caught, what they can do is pass over your personal details to your government tax department.. i.e HMRC for those who live in the UK, IRS for those who live in the US and inform them that you are earning extra income which you have most likely not declared

I doubt it - CCP cannot show that any money changed hands (unless they themselves have bought the ISK from you).

All CCP sees is "Guy A gave Guy B access to some in-game assets for no obvious reason" and from that they infer that money changed hands to balance the transaction.

That standard of proof is of course more than enough to ban you from EVE (in the ToS CCP reserves the right to ban you for whatever reason they wish to) but I doubt it would be enough for a tax investigation.

"Guy A gave Guy B access to some digital assets (that remained in our possession and our property all along).

We think access to these assets is valuable because people are willing to pay for it.

Gambling regulations? first time I hear about this Somer Blink thing....

Yes, EVE players transfer (access to) assets all the time but we we think this case is special based on our proprietary analysis of his behavioral patterns.

No, we don't have any strong indication that money or other RL assets changed hands.

No, his RL data was not verified when he created an account with us."

If I worked for a tax collection agency I'd file that tip right into the paperbin.... Roll

Admittedly a neat idea but it just doesn't seem very practical to me.
