When you have a Raven in quarter armor after using the wrong type of HAM to beat through his active shield tank, don't burn out your guns. It makes you look like a complete ****** in local.

[Guy in an Orca in a POS on directional] > your a gatecamping tool in your tengu.. and you got spanked... just say it. no way you can save face on this one..

could have tried to ransom him... say that you stopped firing in order to give him time to pay you. Roll

Did you ungroup your launchers to check whether they were all burned out? Often, when a group is apparently burned out, it's actually only one or two that are out of commission and the remainder are still useable (albeit with 98% heat damage or so).

I quickly checked fittings, and yes, all of the HAMs were cooked. Really my own fault for not bothering to train Strategic cruiser past 1, or you know, not be smart about heat damage.

HAMS on a Tengu? yuck :p
But yeah get that to at least 3, I got a lot of **** for training mine to 5 but damn its nice perk to overheat with less worry :)

But everyone does it at some point or another, I had a funny situation where I burned out my drake's HMLs fighting a Harbi....had to burn out of range hoping he would stick around and let my drones eat the last of his structure. He ofc warped at like 10% structure...but luckily for me it was to a gate where he got hit by gate guns and finished off. We both had a laugh about that one.

Done some testing - I usually run with two groups of launchers, 4 and 3 in each. If I activate them both simultaneously, all launchers will burn out when OH'd for too long. However, if the group activations are staggered, then ungrouping either group will show that only one launcher in each is burned out.

TLDR; there are certain conditions where some launchers in a group won't be burned out

A few years ago, I had a disposable small tower set up in a class 3 wormhole. One time, I had to go away for a while, and couldn't check up on the game for two or three days. When I came back, my tower was being taken down, post-reinforce timer, by some carebear corporation. It was too late to do anything so I logged off and went to sleep. Aside from some fuel, ammo, and an unfit hauler/scanner frig, the POS was empty.

The next day, my POS was gone, and the carebear POS was up at a nearby moon. There weren't too many of them online. I was in a Nemesis, fit with a probe launcher. I found the static, and sat nearby while pondering what to do next. Suddenly, the wormhole lit up, and then collapsed. A minute later, an Orca uncloaked. I promptly tackled, and silently emptied out all loaded Torpedoes.

But the launchers don't reload.

I sat there, and wondered what's going on. As I checked the cargo, the painful realization dawned upon me that what was in my launchers was all I had to work with, as the cargo was filled up with Sleeper goods and loot from previous pvp engagements.

As the Orca sat there, shields down and a chunk of armor missing, I wasted no time and opened a conversation. I told him in no uncertain terms that because I obviously couldn't carry away anything he was transporting, I'd let him go if he made it worth my while. After a few lines of reassuring text that I would hold my word, he agreed. Four hundred million was transferred into my wallet, and I disappeared into the ether.

I essentially ransomed an expensive ship with the EVE equivalent of "gun fingers."

Two days later, the war went live, and we had T3s and recons hounding them in and out of the wormhole. We didn't score many kills, as the bears did everything possible to avoid us. However, within a short amount of time, they withdrew (edit: from; their POS is still sitting in that wormhole) their POS. We didn't stop the war, though. In a week, the entirety of that corporation's member base stopped signing in. Aside from some very sporadic exceptions from one or two guys, I haven't seen any of those people online ever again.

To be slightly more on topic:

In my opinion, the way to not be terrible at pvp is to have at least some degree of planning before battles. Hitting the right buttons, scouting, and properly fitting are all important, but you should always drill a few contingency plans into your head, so as to not have to think as much when you're trying to turn around a fight that's not going your way. You have much less time to think properly when dealing with the stress of managing a battle, than before one.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Well at least the Orca guy in local misspelled "you're" and wrote "your" instead - let's see him save face.
