Possibility of melee ships?

Sounds like another one of those "make bumps do damage" threads again. Or just another WoW idiot trying to once again understand why a game about spaceships has no swords in it.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

I'm thinking a phallus shapped Amarr ship called the 'Ashramm' that does bumping-based damage would be win...

I'm sure you're all familiar with the 'classes' found in most MMOs; E.v.e. Online covers them pretty well. You have healers (logi), dps (a variety of ships, mainly cruisers), tanks (BSes and Capitals), Mezzers (e-war), and rogues (bombers). This game has a gross omission, however; a melee class. Has CCP ever considered a ship that can only hit from a few Space-meters away?

Anyways, just a random thought I had. This game is getting pretty dated and I'm sure CCP is always looking for ways to keep up with other, similar games on the market.

You've been playing DAoC haven't you? P

Ah, I've never flown Gallente stuff. Are you sure that is truly melee? I was under the impression they just had very short ranges.

Melee does have very short range, that's what melee is! P

Wikipedia entry for Melee has a subsection devoted to the MMO/gaming usage of the term. I'd say EVE has melee combat pretty well covered with the ships/weapons it already has.

Notice also the origin of the term is from the Latin miscere "to mix" - sounds exactly like a kitchen sink fleet to me.Blink

I wasn't thinking an actual sword, that would look ridiculous; maybe some sort of mechanical claws, and the advantage to offset their melee-status would be that they completely ignore shields and go right for armor/structure.

Dear god, please no.

Ever used a brawler fit before?

Now i would like to be able to ram my ship in to someone and inflict damage. Incursus already looks like a jousting ship. Brutix looks like it could head butt someone. Rohk looks like a train.

Id rather have collisions instead of this bumper car bullshit we have now. At least when their shields are down collisions actually do damage.

Melee ships are stupid. Melee drones on the other hand...

Little bastards would latch onto an enemy ship and try to forcibly re-position turret barrels and jam missile tubes. Anatomically correct drones bought with Aurum in the NeX store would sit on your cockpit and moon you (i.e. imagine a robotic arse+junk covering most of your client's screen.) Graffiti drones would spray paint user-chosen messages (of peace and understanding) on the enemy cockpits/GUIs.

The possibilities for melee drones are limitless.

Great to see that most E.v.e. players have absolutely no imagination or inventiveness. Roll

This game is going to go the way of all the other WoW-clones if the devs don't make efforts to keep up gameplay-wise with the other cookie-cutter MMOs on the market; I'd rather not see that happen, as I actually *do* enjoy this game a fair amount...

I actually heard something about this today. Folks were spreading the word ("Just wanted to let you know...") that PL and TEST are about to launch a massive gankfest on Amarr ice fields in response to some Goon Amarr armor plan they heard about. I don't usually buy into these sorts of rumors (since blind trust is a liability in this game) but since I hate multiboxing, afk, npc alt ice miners with a passion - I kinda hope its true. Big smile

They could pay homage to a certain old rpg, and give brutix a PROTON AXE.

But I'm still up for the idea to have rogue drone dominix as player ship, and make it scratch the paint of enemy ship while making a nerve-breaking SCREEEECH sound.

They already have that. They're called blaster boats. And no we're not going to get Outlaw Star style ships with arms.

Edit: And there aren't any similar games on the market. That's why I'm playing.

Battleships are not 'tanks'. If you had actually lived in 0.0 and run high end plexs, or lived in wormhole space, and run high end wormhole sites, you would know this.

Tech 3 strategic cruisers, command ships, and sometimes heavy interdictors, are the 'tanks' of eve.

That being said, Blaster boats are melee boats. However, I'm probably giving this troll thread more credit than it deserves.

Ok so we went four pages and heard stuff like 'melee spaceships' and 'it would be ridiculous to spaceship wield a sword"....

And yet no one mentioned Voltron!

I give you the new modular Titan!
