Possibility of melee ships?

I'm sure you're all familiar with the 'classes' found in most MMOs; E.v.e. Online covers them pretty well. You have healers (logi), dps (a variety of ships, mainly cruisers), tanks (BSes and Capitals), Mezzers (e-war), and rogues (bombers). This game has a gross omission, however; a melee class. Has CCP ever considered a ship that can only hit from a few Space-meters away?

Anyways, just a random thought I had. This game is getting pretty dated and I'm sure CCP is always looking for ways to keep up with other, similar games on the market.

In case this isn't a 0/10 troll, that particular position is filled by blaster/pulse laser/autocannon fits.

Ah, I've never flown Gallente stuff. Are you sure that is truly melee? I was under the impression they just had very short ranges.

There are no "other, similar games on the market". There are other MMOs, but they are nothing like EVE. And when was the last time you saw a spaceship swinging a sword in ANYTHING?

I wasn't thinking an actual sword, that would look ridiculous; maybe some sort of mechanical claws, and the advantage to offset their melee-status would be that they completely ignore shields and go right for armor/structure.

Remove all turret hardpoints from Incursus and all Sansha ships. Instead, create new hislot mods that allow us to enchant the frontal spikes/lances with bonuses to attack and damage. Then you could add all sorts of cool effects; set it on fire to convert all damage to thermal for example.

Perhaps officers could even drop officer enchantments. Estamel's Modified Vorpal Enchantment; struck ships need to make a DC20 fortitude save or explode instantly.

EDIT: Maybe something to make the spike/lance/whatever a lightsaber?!

Ah, so this is the stealth buff to armor tanking.

I maintain that we should add lightsabers which would do bonus damage to armor and less to shields to fix this issue.

And you are complaining about that why?

And a T3 Dominix would be the Warlock class?

I'm actually not complaining. I think the CFC is moving towards at least being ready to armor tank. And my "combat" characters already trained the skills (well I want the honeycombing ones, won't take too long).

But really, armor tanking needs some kind of buff. That Ancillary Armor Rep isn't really that great, as I understand it.

This thread reminds me of someone's sig on here. It's goes something like this.

"Cyno me in closer, I want to hit them with my sword."

Destination SkillQueue:- It's like assuming the Lions will ignore you in the Savannah, if you're small, fat and look helpless.

Armor mods + propmod should let you kamikaze your ship with a ramming attack. Just make sure stations undock provide a protection to avoid too many problems.

I always thought that the Gallente Ships(Drone Boats) are more like Hunters, with their Pets(Drones) :)

I put it on my big list of armor modules that have no practical use, along with Reactive armor hardeners and Armor Layering membranes.

I'm very fortunate to play in a type of space where armor is actually vastly superior for when you are murdering people because being a massive, multi billion isk immobile slab with 4 free medslots and a ton of EHP is more desirable than being cheap and agile any day of the week.

Highsec is great.

Multiple Undock points might help with this, heck allot of the station models already have the physical look that they do.

IT is a known fact that we are all playing a "pet" class .

We the pod control our big pet ship... then our pet has pets (drones) Shocked

No amount of different undock would make stations like Jita 4-4 safe if collision were able to do damages.

So finally a good use for the Incursus' little lance?
