Want to spend less time scanning and more time looting faction wrecks?
Want to separate the wheat from the chaff faster?
Want to be able to farm your region dry and keep respawning the good sites?

I present to you my Deep Space Probe Exploration Guide:
http://www.swiftandbitter.com/eve/dsp

I would like to thank the following people for their help in putting all this together: (in no particular order)
Emperor Salazar/xxSketchxx for his DSP Strength Predictions sheet on which mine is based
Daesis Wrack for providing me with the strength formula
Aandaan, Daneel Trevize, Kirian Kador and ReguIator for the wormhole data they collected
Cassius Vaughn, Commander Xian, demosthenes62, Freon Solari, Khalia Nestune, Kurst I, LuTaW CapaAQu, Loco 888, Melinda Lin and MissileClub for their #Exploration and/or EVE mail contributions
All the regulars from "Exploration" channel in game (I'm not going to name you because I'll end up missing someone), all the players who've shared their knowledge on the forums (with a special mention going out to DeMichael Crimson & Miss Moonwych), and last but not least, to all the pirates who didn't shoot me while I was out collecting data. o7

An Excel Document? You should really try to put this either into an HTML page or post it as a PDF file. Not sure how trustworthy people consider classic (pre-2007) office file formats from strangers.

HTML would be nice! PDF could be difficult, the scan strength must be adjusted induvidually.

Thanks nice Guide :)

I can confirm the validity of the file. The reason it is in excel format is because there are pages that you can plug stats into (probe strength) and they will output signature strengths based on that.
The text portion of the guide could be word/pdf/whatever but unless you wanna do the math yourself those pages are handy.

It can't be done as PDF, and HTML might require skills or resources he doesn't have. As they say in the south, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If your Office is patched properly there's little risk.

As I said in the previous forums, awesome work and thanks for doing this.

Open Excel document, open the menu, click save as, click .PDF or .XPS

Magic!

Excellent work!

Added it to our EVElopedia page.

EDIT: Absolutely no pun intended; I should stop going to the forums before my morning coffee...

And the PDF preserves all the calculations when you enter stuff in the proper cells? If so, that's a new-ish feature which never worked for me in the past.

This is exceptional!

Big big thanks for posting this, St Mio! I only wish this included worm space sites as well.

I have managed to whip together an HTML version that uses Javascript and cookies to calculate the signature strengths for your personal probe strength and to show/hide one pirate faction at a time. It is usable without either JS or Cookies but it will then default to a probe strength of 10.

I've also PDFed the Excel sheet so you can print it and DIY and fill in the signature strengths yourself Twisted

I haven't touched PHP in many years so unfortunately I cannot put together an IGB version that checks which solar system you're in and filters the sheet automatically.

It'll still be a while before I manage to add WH-space, but in the mean time I suggest you read Aandaan's post on the old forums.

The HTML version also features links to the EVElopedia articles, and lastly I'll be adding the new 5/10s (and any other new DED plexes) as I hear about them.

Thank you all and have a lovely day :)

Nice post

I have one question, though: Is it possible that one's ship or skills make lower signal strength sites invisible on scan? Or will any site always show, even if ultimately unprobable with my ship/skills?

If a site is within range of your probe, it will always show as a scan result, even if it only has 0.00001% strength :)
I stand corrected :P

yes, it is possible if signature strength is very weak

you drop core probes and see more signatures in system than with DSP.

try first scan with DSP 128 or even 64 AU to discover all signatures in system and second scan with 256 to filter desired signatures.

All sites will always show up, even with 0,01% strength.

P.S. Ouch! I should update page more often...

the thing is that if your probes sensor strength not high enough (ship without bonuses for example) some "weak" signatures have strength less than 0,01% with 256 AU DPS. In this case they will not show up in signatures list.

So, no matter the ship, skills or chosen probes - If the signature strength is less than 0.01, I'll never see it because of game mechanics?
