Do you loot dead rats on missions?

I am currently doing lvl 2 missions solo and will soon try lvl 3. Some of the missions have a couple dozen rats to kill. Is it economically viable to loot them all after killing?

I have read there are decent loot drops on some missions. Is that usually from the "boss" if there is one?

Most people go back afterwards in a dedicated salvage/loot ship. Bookmark a wreck from each room so you can get back to them after turning in the mission. Then fit a dragoon with salvager, tractor beams, salvage drones, etc

Actually if you use a Marauder you can do the mission while looting/salvaging it Big smile

if you use marauder and you get money from salvaging than doing missions itself, then you fail at missioning.

I used to for L4 missions, but quickly found it's more profitable to skip the looting and salvaging and just get the next L4 knocked out. Blitzing L4's is more profitable than stopping to collect all those wrecks.

Marauders give significant bonuses to tractor beam range and velocity and have a number of free utility high slots so they are designed to be used to loot and salvage as well as to blow the s**t out of anything on field. Its not uncommon to get more in salvage and loot than bounties.

We are talking about newbie doing L2/L3, marauders was clear trololo from our beloved PlunderBunny if you didn't get it yet :)

OP, looting and salvage may seem to be profitable to you at your in-game age but it really isn't so great. In the long run you will be better just do next mission. In fact until you hit L4s loot/salvage is trash and pennies. And with L4s again you are better off with maximizing rewards and LPs. Unless you actually like shooting NPCs and loot their drops of course but that is totally up to you to decide.

I would do it even if i cant say weather or not its the most profitable thing for you to do at this stage.
Looting and salvaging gives you both salvage and modules. Some of the modules areuseless to you and not worth selling thus you refine them and you end up with some minerals, the salvage you can save up and use for rigs. The minerals can be used to make your own ammo or whatever. But in both cases it will give you a chanse to play with industry and learning how to use the market efficiently (lerning what is worth building/selling).

Building the most basic stuff dosent take much skills, neither does some semi decent marketing skills, and its useful for you to get used to these things early one since they can become valuable for you at a later stage.
Dont worry so much about having to make the optimal amount of ISK. RIght now your skills and ships are cheap, so use the oppertuneties presented to you to expand your exsperienses in the game instead Smile

Good luck!

I save these sites under Corporate Locations so me or my buddies can go grab a salvage ship. While it may make little ISK, salvage can be turned into rigs, so we use it to reduce the cost of rigging our ships. Loot can be reprocessed to materials, from which you can make ammunition. Essentially salvaging/looting enables you to choose between buying the rigs/ammo or building it yourself.

Especialy when starting EVE it's a good way to earn a little extra, when you get more skilled, you can earn more by blitzing missions.

I still salvage though, I get borred to fast if I'm only blitzing, and like the deversion from the shooting part.

And it still earns a nice buck.

If you find that you can run the missions quickly then you are probably better off just starting another one to get the standing to do lvl 4s, if it takes you quite a while then you probably would benefit from salvaging.

If you have an alt you can have thme do the looting/salvaging while you move onto the next mission.

In a noctis with 8 tractors and a load of salvage drones ti's a very much afk affair.

1.Launch drones, set to auto salvage
2.Lock wrecks tractor all in.
3.Unlock targets, target other wrecks, tractor in.
4.Repeat process.

5.Then when there are no wrecks left and only loot can double-click each of them in overview adn spam the LOOT ALL button

6.Profit

A decent L4 mission can make you an additonal 20-40mill in loot and salvage.
Crap ones can net you les than 1mill

But what's the point in speeding into lvl 4 missions if you can't even afford a BS or even a BC,. The prices on ships vs isk reward from mission. I don't even want to think about how many lvl 2-3 missions you must do before you can buy and fit a Maelstrom or something. Salvaging might be boring but on some missions worth it.

The other thing about looting level 1/2 mission sis occasionally something interesting comes up. Yesterday for example I came across a "upgraded 1MN afterburner" that seemed to give more like MWD speeds though I lost it shortly afterwards and never got to test it properly.

EDIT Found another one, 500% speed increase but also 500% bigger signature.

By "Marauder" you probably mean "Dominix" or "Myrmidon". A marauder is massive overkill for L4 missions that new players shouldn't consider a goal. However, sticking some salvagers on a drone ship to supplement your loot is legit.

Note that I say supplement your loot, not your income, generally speaking, looting is always worth it on missions but salvaging is never worth as much as the corresponding amount of time spent toward completing the next mission and getting more bounties. This changes to some extent when you get the capital to front a Noctis, and salvaging becomes a matter of an extra two to five minutes instead of an extra ten to twenty. But even that will gradually lose its value as your mission ships and mission reflexes grow more powerful and you can grind out missions faster with fewer pauses to think/warp out/repair/etc.

Alternative Idea: find a really, really bored friend, have him follow you one room behind hoovering up the mission loot and salvage in a Catalyst in exchange for some portion of said loot/salvage, or just because he's a nice guy in your corp. Technically he'd be helping you more by actually bringing a combat ship, but he can loot for you while watching TV, microwaving a burrito, studying quantum physics, harnessing his latent psychic abilities, etc so the return to effort ratio is nice and high if he's mostly just logged in to chat.

Additionally, when you're _not_ the new guy, _you_ can be a nice guy by having a newbie corp-mate follow you and do this, letting him keep _all_ the loot/salvage to build up his wealth in exchange for saving you certain things you'd actually want for personal use (say, meta 4 lasers, or meta 3+ armor plates, or just meta 4 crap in general). It's a relatively good deal for those 2-week-old pilots where a couple million isk one way or the other is the difference between missioning 'cause it's entertaining and having to grind 'cause you're broke.

Getting back to the topic at hand...Marauders in the New Citizens Q&A? Really guys? Roll

You *should* be salvaging and looting your wrecks. If not, you're just leaving ISK floating in space. Period. There's really no discussion on the matter.

Granted, salvaging/looting doesn't really become lucrative until level 3 and 4 missions. By the time you reach that stage, you should have a Noctis if you really want to make the most of it. A Noctis is a significant investment, so until you can afford it, any turret-based Destroyer makes a great makeshift salvage ship. I recommend the Algos so that you can also use salvage drones to make it go faster.

Don't know what loot Hilmar drops when you gank him.

And of course which CONCORD rules apply to IcelandP

But seriously:

Some people do loot/salvage their missions while others just blitz through them and grind more missions in less time.
What is best and what works best for you....that's up to you.

Personally, when I do/did missions I just blitzed them with only 1 exception, Angel Extravaganza IV. With that one I logged in an alt in the Noctis and cleaned it up. But other then that one I usually didn't even bother.
