I rather doubt that in 50 years our grand children will be asking for this.

They will be asking why we used up all the oil and borrowed so much money that they now have to pay off.

I doubt it. I don't ask my grandfather why they attacked poland and france and the rest of europe, I ask why he didn't invest just a little in computers, or why he didn't put any money aside from being in the air force when it paid well.

If we aren't asking why our forefathers and those before them did what they did, why will our children and grand children?

All that aside, EON was a neat idea, at FAR too high of a price point, supplying old information.

My own tossed box of Omni Magazines from 1978-1982 with the original William Gibson short stories in them begs to differ.

Spider-Man didn't appear until 1962!

/nerdslap

So how much more valuable would 1961 Spiderman comics be then ? you see!

Didn't it also use some horrible DRM?

Wait, magazines still exist?

No. Didn't you read the OP?P

Pity, I liked the few issues I have - but as stated far too expensive.
Which was why I stopped buying them.

Don't forget all the free H.R.Geiger art, too!

That's right. Been so long I had forgotten.

I remember reading about fractals for the first time there too.

I subscribed to EON magazine and really enjoyed reading it. I thought it was a quality product and a great read for any EVE fan. Really sad that its shutdown. Cry

Now, that's a strong reaction.

I am amongst those of you who have a complete collection of EON magazine. When I first got into EVE I bought all of the issues, ISK Guide, the map book and posters along with a year of game time and a ton of stuff from the EVE store including that really nice artbook and BC ship models. The experience was overwhelming and so immersive. EON was of very high quality and I enjoyed all the behind the scenes articles like the regular interviews with CCP staff members, The fiction varied in quality, but the back page humor always made me laugh. I also enjoyed how they only sold ad space to players for in game corporations and services. It definitely was not for everyone but I think the high priced approach is what made it last for so many years since I don't believe that they would have sold that many more copies (I'm sure the number was fairly low) a quarter if it were less expensive. EVE has a group of players who are willing to spend money on their hobby especially with all those other FTP MMOs out there. Granted CCP did overestimate us when the NEX store went live. Goodbye EON, you will always have a home on my shelves.

Only reason I would have ever gotten EON is if it included comics involving the EVE lore or something, otherwise its stuff you can pretty much find online. Whoopie fricken doo. EVE comics would be fun and cool if well written though.

It comes as no great surprise that the worlds most expensive magazine has fallen flat on its face.

After some thought, here are what I suspect are the reasons why.

1) The magazine is quarterly. It can not possibly be able to keep up with events and updates within the game.
2) The people behind the magazine don't even play the game. Apart from one who just mines.
3) The reason for the high cost is due to no adverts in the magazine. Why? Surely some adverts, from e.g., Nvidia, can help subside the cost and generate more subscribers. It's hard to convince anyone to purchase the magazine due to its cost.
4) Shipping costs were too much.
5) Took far too long to to enter the digital age.
6) Hardly any social media engagement hence no communications with their fanbase.
7) No SEO/PPC campaigns.
8) Customer relations were non existent.
9) Editing was poor.
10) Magazine took too long to reach the customers.
11) Even the digital edition was far too expensive.

This gives a great opportunity for someone to either pick it up and carry it on digitally or start afresh. It requires a proper marketing plan and direction for it to be a success.

Shocked OMG, are, are you a Jove?

Or just emaciated? What?

CCP, there are off buttons for ship explosions, missile effects, turret effects, etc. "Immersion" does not seem to be harmed by those. So, please give us a persisting off button for the jump gate and autoscan visuals.

A few things seem inconsistent with Richie's statement: one can preview Issue #030 on Zinio (I didn't attempt to buy it) and you and rokweiler seem to have a lock on the scoop. If Eon were shutting down I would expect some attempt by either MMM or CCP to tell subscribers what happens to their prepaid subscriptions at the same time as announcing the discontinuance of the publication. Unless of course Richie spilled the beans in advance of corporate PR. One could come to some different conclusions with the scant details so far.
