I really doubt CCP is slacking on the game that feeds them, but I believe that they are working on having their apples in different baskets. Personally I look forward to WoD as long as it doesn't have something like the NEX Store (because if it does I will honestly boycott it).

I personally can't wait to play it to see what kind of EVE and Dust easter eggs they put in it.

Oh and CCP. Whatever in that game lines up with the Drake in EVE PLEASE don't nerf it.. Again.. and again and again.....

Wizardry Online is an MMO where permadeath also exists. While rather 'diluted', when you die, you become a ghost, and you have to get to the respawn point on the way, you can encounter nasty ghost thingies that will rip away some of your essence if they catch you ( and send you back to your corpse in the process so you have to try again ).
Every time this happens, your chance of successfully ressurecting goes down by 10%. You can sacrifice some of your stuff to increase this chance again, but if it fails, you're dead, forever with that toon.

Wizardry also isn't the first. I know of other MMOs that have it. They're all indie games though.

We have a production schedule we stick to and it's not affected by a few undead running around the office. If anything, the chilling presence of the blood-suckers lurking in the shadows is making us hug our keyboards even tighter! Straight

It's called "Escalation of Commitment", dude!

You dont know much about the original vampire myhtology do you?
original myhtology vampires:
had a familiar animal similar to a witch, that they could turn into, usually wolves not bats
cannot cross moving water, in any way, it creates a barrier to them
cannot come into contact with silver, produces the same effect as the sun
the sun sets their skin ablaze until they are reduced to cinders
they are generally pale, brittle, and very weak physically, unless they have very recently feasted on blood (and they look like goblins)
they require a constant ingestion of blood or they shrivel and die a painful, slow death
as well as a few other notes im not quite remembering right now

best part? these characteristics were all based on REAL medical conditions present in pre-medieval europe, that can still be found today (though generally not all on the same person)

Well you are talking about something completely different because the term vampire didn't even come around until the 1700's, which is ever so slightly later than early medieval times. The closest I can find to your account are the Empusae and the Lamia, neither of which are described as ugly little trolls. Witches, demons, and vampires all stem from a similar folklore tree.
Medieval Christianity vampire is the common description of vampires which are the dead risen from their grave to feast on the blood of living men and women as they slumber. Staking of the heart or stomach or decapitation of the head were the most common ways to stop a vampire. Full dismemberment and creating a vampire stew in his coffin with boiling water were also in style but not as widely known.

OP, you do know that this event isn't too far away, right? Given the ambitious nature of the agenda (mapping out the next ten years in EVE for example) I'm not at all surprized that we have entered a slightly quieter dev blog period.

The other night someone on TS said "Have you been to a bookstore recently? There is a section called "Paranormal teen romance". Its not one, but two sets of shelves". OK, paranormal teen romance and WoD are not the same, but I think that fad is still with us.

No. It's because we're smack bang in the middle between expansions. Always the time the devs are quietest.

As a fan of WoD I want to make it perfectly clear White Wolf's WoD has NOTHING with “teen horror” pot of boiling diaria that is, sadly enough, popular during last half a decade. First WoD setting Vampire: The Masquerade was created over two decades ago, years before Stephenie Meyer inflicted her atrocities on the western literature.

There are two primary subjects VtM examinees. First is political straggle of vampire against other vampire, and second is vampire's struggle against beast within, to preserve his humanity. First subject is what makes WoD ideal for sandbox MMORPG. Complex internal politics of Camarilla, struggle with Sabbat, hunters and other alien supernaturals can be easily integrated in EVE stile political relations.

One of the original creators of WoD, Mark Rein-Hagen, is professional political consultant and his experience in that line of work had large influence in creation of that setting and its heavy focus on politics. If you don't have experience with WoD this interview with him might give you better idea what WoD should be about.

Jessica Danikov > EVE is your real life. the rest is fantasy. caught in a corporation. no escape from banality. open up yours eyes, peer through pod good and seeeeeee. I'm just a poor pilot, I need no sympathy. because I'm easy scam, easy go, little isk, little know. anyway the solar wind blows...
