Say, I just started playing eve a couple of months ago. I have been doing missions and trying to save money for a new ship and implants. But I guess My questions are simply.

  1. What other ways are there to make money in the game?
  2. If there is one that some people perfer over an onother?.
  3. And is there any advice to give to someone just starting out?

If this is the wrong forum to ask this is please let me know. Thank you

Missioning is pretty much the common way to start earning ISK.

Others go for mining but that is supposed to earn you a lot less compared to missioning. It is also mind-numbingly boring.
And you are pretty much on the lowest rung of the Eve-hierarchy ladder. Oh, and everyone hates you.

Real money is in trading and playing the market. This requires a good knowledge of the mechanics as well as where the opportunities are. And money to make money, the more the better, of course.
Still, it is not impossible to turn 500.000 ISk into 500 Million ISK in a matter of weeks. And a matter of hours to lose that much money.

Then there are other possibilities, of course:

Incursions can earn you 100+ mil per hour but require fairly extensive skills and a pretty shiny ship,
Wormholes are nice as well but dangerous to the uninitiated and require skills as well,
Exploration,
Scamming other people can be lucrative if you are lucky enough to happen upon an ignorant soul after days of spamming the same scam in local,
PI, which involves lots of clicking to start but can provide a few millions for very little effort.
Selling your body. The going rate is 1.000.000 ISK for a corpse in Jita, the last time I checked.

There is more, of course, but those are the most common, imo.

Missioning is preferred primarily because it's reliable. With the bare minimum of attention, you gain sufficient isk to buy most of your sub-capital ships and so on with essentially no risk.

Pretty much every other money-making activity in the game has a potentially higher return, but doesn't have the same lack of risk. You can be undercut in station trading, killed while trying to build up LP in FW, ambushed while doing shipping or exploration in profitable (i.e. low or null-sec) areas, and so on.

(Technically you _can_ get suicided in a mission, but no one's ever going to actually do it to you.)

1.) What can I do in EVE that is fun to do and makes me want to log in each and every single seconds I have spare and thus neglecting my duties in real life so that I end up as a lonely bitter vet on the EVE forums. (aka the Swift and Bitter WTD chart).
2.) That is personal preference. Industry minded people will prefer mining/industry...shooting minded people will prefer PvE/PvP...shady people will prefer pirating/scamming.
3.) ISK means nothing, neither does flying the biggest faction battleship with officer mods. ISK and ships are just tools to do the only thing that matters in EVE, which is to have fun while playing it.

FIxing this: UNLESS you make yourself a target. Flying a 5+ bil wreck (uhm, I mean ship) to do level 3 or 4's will attract attention you don't want.....

Joining a good player corporation can be very helpful. Often player corps share a POS and blueprints, help each other run missions or go pirating, help replace lost ships, run as a group into wormholes and such, get you detailed advice from veteran players, etc.

(Joining a bad corporation, though, will merely turn your game time into a second job.)

I have something that could earn you nothing or 1b+, depending on how it goes.

And it's way more fun that just about anything else anyone here will suggest to you.

Have a guide about it.

I see it is a new month, so it is time again for another random act of philanthropy. Check your wallet.

Please use the ISK to have fun NOW, not in a week or month or year from now. Buy some ships expecting to lose them, and go stir up the muck doing silly dangerous and risky things. When you lose them, laugh, for you've really lost nothing.

I ran into someone who did it for fun. Seemed to be also very good at it with 2 characters.
And my ship was only 1.2 bil when he came after me. Cool (Luckily I saw it coming).

My preferred method is DED complexes, but I belt rat too. That doesn't really work in high sec though. :( Just about everything makes money. Here's a list of stuff you can do.

Couple months should not be considered "just starting out".

If you just want ISK, then there is no reason you shouldn't be running L4s in a BS for tens of millions of ISK an hour in well under 2 months. I think it is just a couple weeks to mining barge. You can be ninja salvaging very quickly.

If you want to PVP, you should easily be able to fly, and afford to fit, frigates, cruisers, and maybe even battlecruisers in under 2 months.

Missions/Incursions - Blow up crap for NPC corporations, they pay you
Mining - Mine ore and sell on market or reprocess ore into minerals and sell those on market or use to :
Industry - Build crap using the minerals from mining and sell on market, T1, T2 and T3 stuff
Marketeer - Buy low, sell high, buy raw materials on market, build something and sell at a higher price
Explorer - Find sites in deep space and find valuble items to sell
Hauler - Move crap for people, for a fee

There are a ton of other things you can do to make money, but these are some of the basics.

I like doing exploration gas harvesting in Ladar sites in wspace. Not the most profitable when it comes to ISK/h, but it puts a bit of excitement into the ISk grind. It is very risky of course, the sleepers eat the little Venture like candy, and also the player residents do not like you for "stealing" their gas iskies.

I collect corpses, but only from people I killed or helped kill.

Yes because everyone starts out knowing that, 20/20 hindsight is a good thing. FYI yes you can get into a battleship inside 2 months but having the skills to use the modules and have that ship actually effective takes longer. Not to mention the 5.0 rep required for level 4 missions.

@OP: I have found mining Scordite to be more profitable than running missions, until your skills allow you 90%+ refining efficiency though I would say just sell the ore however unless you are doing something else at the same time such as another game, housework, watching a movie etc mining with a barge is incredibly boring.

Two of the defining characteristics of a carebear are wanting other players to play the way the carebear wants and whining on the forums for the game to change when they don't. Yet I see more threads on these forums from gankers than I do miners whining about wanting the game changed to suit them.
