Hi,
I started Eve again with a new character, and am playing with 2 friends. Less than one week of skills in our shiny destroyers, we were ratting in 0.4 when a T2 frig popped up.
Like common sheeps we panicked and left our warp-scrambled friend to his fate :).

I mailed the pilot who scared the **** out of us, and got some advices... So we should make a group with a destro DPS, a tackler and a support frigate.
I have some questions (at least, i'm getting to my point..):
-Support frigate ok, as a Caldari, looks like the griffin (and later a cruiser like a blackbird) should do the trick. But how to protect it? Fitting it for support / tanking? Or Support / scrambling?
-For PVP in small groups, how to deploy? sending in the tackler, then the DPS?
-I know we will loose some ships and it will take time to work as a wing, but is there any hope with this kind of group in frigs / destro in low sec sectors?
-Should we better stay in hi sec, mining and waiting for our cruisers skills to be done?
-Regarding security status, attacking only negative SS does not lower our SS?

Thanks for your time, and pardon my english :)

Your griffin should be out of range of most guys your fight, while your fast tackle/DPS take down the target.

If you don't want to scare someone off send in your fast tackle first, but only if he feels he can tank the incoming DPS waiting for your support to show up on grid.

Also I'd recommend a Duel Prop Frig for Tackle as they can still get away from Webs and Scrams.

And HAVE FUN!

Since you're new, I'd recommend you simply fly easy T1 frigs that brawl the opponent down (think blaster merlin or blaster incursus). You'll get kited quite often by Condors, Slicers and the like, but kiting is a bit more difficult and you can switch to that tactic later (rail incursus, condor, etc.). I'd get your 3rd pilot in a Repping Burst rather than the Griffin, and maybe put a 4th guy in a griffin if possible. I think I'd rather have reps than jams. Anyways, best of luck!

Have you considered adding a fourth person for logistics? A navitas or bantam will really help the fast tackle get into range
For fast tackle I'd recommend an atron because of the fast tracking of blaster turrets (and bias)
This may again be out of bias but the ecm only has a chance of lock on disruption while sensor dampers, tracking disruptors, and webs work 100% of the time
And of you don't mind adding yet another person a artillery thtasher or missile corax or talwar may be able to add on damage to what your brawler is doing.

Thanks for your answers.
I'll look for support fits for my destro or a new Griffin, i'll let the others do the DPS.

And yes, the main objective is to have fun :)

This kind of thing is very doable, depending on what sort of targets you run up against. It sounds like you already have a good sense of what sorts of roles you should have in your gang. The next thing for you to do is get some halfway competent fits and go out and give it a shot. With a bit of trial and error you'll refine your strategy, provided you don't give up after the first few losses. The best defense if you are planning to use ECM or logi will be just to stay out of range as much as possible. Don't nerf your Griffin's ECM capability by trying to fit a tank, it isn't worth it. If you need some example fits, contact me in game.

Have you considered the following?

Ratting in low sec is dull as **** and gets you no isk. I started off my life (in between piracy) scanning down radars/easy complexes with a probing ship and getting the isk from them in bounties and salvage.

So my advice is slightly different.

One of you fly a prober that can also use combat scanners just for the practise if you find someone out there you want to scan down. Fit it with a salvager/corebreaker/analyser so you can complete the exploration sites. You'll also be able to fit a tracking disrupter or 2 to support at range mates that need assistance in pvp.

Your 2 mates grab a couple of combat ships, fast tackler and a destroyer will work.

You can now make better isk, practise the art of probing which you'll find very useful as you go through eve and you'll also have the option of pvp when you want to.

That was what we were trying wrong to do yesterday, but it went south quite fast.

We'll lose effectiveness in PVE but it should to the trick...
