Don't want to jinx it, but this one sounds like it could be a squonker. I read somewhere that Kubrick's "Napoleon" project had a long, pretty bad history. Continuous trouble with the script, and Kubrick's Napoleon came more like a Victorian Englishman than a late 18th century French Corsican. If Kubrick had trouble with a realistic Napoleon, how's all-American Spielberg going to do it? (I'm a Napoleonic history fan, so I'll admit it-- I'm going to be hyper-critical and anal retentive about the details, no matter what).

spielberg messed up AI
but on the other hand if this is going to be in the same lines as HBO s adams , band of brothers or the pacific i m looking forward to it

I consider it as one of those films that is both good and terrible at various moments.

indeed and that is exactly the problem i had with AI the concept was great and the story unique but it had those typical spielberg moments in them especially the ending

Spielberg is a great filmmaker but he has his own style , just like Kubrick had his own unique style and i do not think they are compatible

but like i said if this project is on the lines of what he has done in the past together with HBO i m looking forward

edit: also known as the only time David did not have 100% control of the released product. He wanted to do 'his' film.....the producers wanted the next Star Wars. The twain shall never meet, as proven.

makes you wonder what would have happened if Peter jackson had decided to film Dune instead of lords of the rings

he was afrer all one of the greatest filmmakers ever

and my personal favorite , undoubtly Barry Lyndon , because every frame in that film looks like a painting

Yes, that film has only started to be appreciated the past decade. I watched it twice on HBO when I was 13, which was weird because I normally did not like slow dramas.

But it's actually a hilarious film in a lot of ways. What a horrible character for a lead !....and Stanley cast Ryan O'Neal, saying later he wanted to cast 'the biggest jerk in Hollywood', and he never let him in on that.

Wow. I forgot about that "The Works" video....found it a few years ago but it got lost as such things do.

This is easily done as I have read about 20 of his biographies.

Probably the oddest thing I found, and it takes a while to watch, is this weird documentary that links most aspects of "The Shining" to his paranoia about the Great Gold Standard Conspiracy.
