Sure, as long as it sticks to the concept of EvE,
such as: everybody can interfere.

But i guess that removes the whole point of an Arena.

Oh well, guess we don't actually need one.

Got any *real* arguments besides "THINK OF THE NOOBS!!!" ?

Hi OP...

I will be creating a PVP Arena between our corps in a week or two, what do you think? We can use the New Eden map as our Arena.

In case no-one has posted this already:

Join one of the current Null BlueDonut alliances, I hear they are planning on implementing "staged" PVP sometime soon ™

Who needs CCP heh ?

Didn't CCP try at one time to test such an idea? And didn't the game **** slap them with a "Hell NO!!" Or am I not remembering things correctly. (To lazy to use search, as the OP seems to be as well, for the other numerous posts of this same idea)

And then after that we can split into PvP and NonPvP servers. The Non PvP server will be called Trammel, and it will have ponies, and rainbows, and pets.

"EvE" stands for "Everyone vs. Everyone." I left WoW because it is dull as Hell. Don't turn EvE into WoW.

Hey I am not much for big words and alot of talking but like the title says PvP Arena. It would be nice to have one like they have in other MMO's just you and your friends que up and a few moments later you all are off fighting in a far away place that no one can but in. I think it would be a good idea and also let new players try PvP with out haveing to make 20jumps and get podded by some one who has been playing for years. So I ask yall what yall think about this idea and with some luck some one at CCP will read this and bring it up to the DEVS.

It's already been suggested, but the Griefers hate the thought of a straight up fight.....Lol

We'll get there at some point.

Only griefers and pussies don't want it. The single idea they can't have all the advantages on their side makes them sick, the idea they might have to fight fairly without abuse/exploit of game mechanics would simply make them rage quit.

It's a matter of time, but we'll get there, and in the end this will lead to more ships destruction and game entertainment.

We're not getting started again with all this old crap about WOW is not pvp yadaya?

You should have played WOW in a pvp server instead, then you see there is plenty of pvp over there just like in Eve.
Wow pvp servers are what you're looking for when you want real pvp everywhere at every moment.

Penalties are different, rewards and drawbacks are different, Eve is a sandbox, WOW is played in different servers.
Both are great games and one would be an idiot to not recognize something going good in the other gaming style.

Want to graveyard camp? -pick some friends go to low sec camp the gate, pick some friends bble whatever null sec station/gate
What's the difference in between your Orc killing rabbits spawning at the graveyard and whatever passing through the gate getting killed by your gang? -none, gaming reasoning is the same, just different tools.

The difference between EVE and WoW are that in WoW PvP is nothing but a timesink, you die, respawn, mount up and get back to whatever the hell you were doing.

In EvE you're in an egg and have to fly all the way back to a station to reequip before you can join the fray again, or you get podded and end up in the medical facility of your choice. Dying in EVE is a time-sink, ISK-sink, mood-sink and maybe even a kitchen-sink.

If you are hoping for an Arena to provide you with an area where you can slug it out, but you won't loose your ship... use the test-server for that as stated earlier in this thread.

If you want to be able to duel, we have all the tools to do that too... so what is it you are asking for?

One of the biggest aspects of pvp in EVE is setting yourself up in a favorable position to engage before you even press F1. Through a variety of things like the fitting of your ship. What knowledge you may or may not have of your enemy and his fitting, whether or not you have any allies nearby, whether or not you have a cyno, neuts, nos, webs, etc. Engagement range, transversal, keeping range, closing range and a host of other factors.

EVE pvp is top-fuel funny car racing and you want to make it stock car, getout

Don't start this again... its a stupid idea, has and will always be a stupid idea it would destroy any sort of sandbox pvp game play. Everyone will give up on roaming because hey guys we have arenas now!!! Space will become even more empty than it already is all the pvp corps will begin to quit

The only way to encourage more pvp in Eve is to make ships less expensive to buy and get rid of stupid things that give gangs or single players an advantage over the general pvper (implants linky alts you know stuff like that). because atm the moment the main reason why fights dont happen on small scales because the enemy tend to assume the other enemy has some sort of advantage over your own gang other than the fleet comp

I do not think that the OP was saying that the arena idea would be mandatory for everyone.
But only something to do for those who might want a level playing field.
Only those interested in such things would participate.
If I wanted to do such things, why would that matter to anyone else?

Literally every single game that added an arena ended up with no pvp outside of it.

Is that because people like arenas better than ganking?

The OP did not say anything about stopping PVP anywhere.
He was suggesting the addition of an arena feature.

The RvB alliance basically already does that and has not ended pvp outside of it.

I think the addition of a CCP controlled arena system would do a lot to teach PVP.

I think a lot of players do not PVP because they don't know how.

No, its because why go looking for a fight when you can just click a button and get one now.

Thats why its killed pvp in every single MMO that has added arenas. They are the single worst thing you can add to a snadbox PvP game.

I've been in RvB and as much fun it is and by far the best way to get instant fights all the time, it does not teach you much about normal PVP, because of the rules they have, and the limited style of engagements. It's just different from what you face elsewhere.

Like No More Heroes said, "PVP" involves a lot of stuff in addition to locking up your opponent and flying your ship properly in the fight, and the only way to learn that is to go out there and do it. Find friends and learn together, or find a corp that helps you to learn.

Arenas would just create a special environment, and becoming an arena pilot would not make you a good pvper.

If you need practice with the combat part itself, fight your corpmates. Try out how different fits work, experiment with tracking and transversal, get a feel for how much incoming damage you can take, learn to manually orbit etc- just stop at hull and this doesn't even cost you anything. It's very useful to do this with a friend, you can tell each others what you are doing and analyze the results together.
