Playing as a "healer"?

I just started PvP in FW, and I'm loving it. I have no idea why I didn't start this a long time ago!!!

My questions:

1. Is it possible to play a healer type in PvP? (I know, I know, this isn't WoW, but you know what I mean.)
2. If so, will it be at all helpful for me to roam around helping people out, or do I need to be in a fleet?
3. If so, what are some good ships to look into? I'm trained to 5 in Caldari frigates and 4 in Min and Gal frigates.

I'm thinking about doing the same with a support type ship. Maybe roaming aroung in a vigil, entering plexes, and helping people out with painters. Would that be totally pointless?

Thanks is advance

A roaming healer won't see many benefits.

1. You'd be most helpful in a ship that catered to how your healing "target" is tanked. As you won't know what your target is flying until you enter system or even how he's tanked since it'll be some random person you see reduced chances of actually being helpful, despite good intentions. Though you could always fly, say, an armor logi and only go in to ships that are traditionally armor tanked.
2. Pilots sometimes just don't understand/care. A ship warps into their plex or whatever, they're going to shoot it. Same militia or not. They don't want to share lp and if there's no immediate threat, there's really no need to be there.

Fleet combat is definitely a more rewarding road for logi pilots. Battles will often hinge on the ability of the fleet's logi.

For the love of all that is good in this world, please dont *ever* use WoW terms in this game.

Not only do most of us have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, the very fact you associate yourself with that filth destroys any and all credibility you may have.

Therefore, the only worthy response is Trolling of the highest degree.

*NEVER* use the word 'healer', the only correct word that can be used here is 'repper'.

ick...I feel filthy and dirty even just thinking about this, let alone typing it.

Use whatever terms you deem necessary. Your idea is well understood. Shadow's response sums the issues up nicely.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that WoW was the first RPG and it coined the word "healer". I am also surprised to find out that there are people out there that have "no idea" that replenishing another persons HP in an RPG is considered a "healer" role. Please tell me more oh wise one, I would love to expand my knowledge base.

OT: I would ask in militia chat if anyone would like a logi frig to accompany them on a plex roam. Sometimes I would do what you are suggesting with a Falcon, just pop up out of nowhere and jam people. Not knowing where there are fleets and battles though it can be boring just jumping around hoping to see someone to repair, and by time you do get there it might be too late.

I've never had any complaints joining someone in a plex where there's wts or neutrals in system. Certainly never had anyone shoot me. Obviously if its all blues, you should find an empty plex or move on.

Do we still all have to pretend we never played that game?

It's one of the most popular games ever and the number one MMO in the world. Chances are everyone on this forum played it and most probably enjoyed it a bit too.

There's no moral high-ground to be had when choosing games. It's just personal preference.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

I haven't - my reasoning is that I enjoy sci-fi games, and dislike fantasy games. I played starcraft, but not warcraft. (the RTS). Eve, being a sci-fi game, is likely to attract a lot of people like this.

It seems like my plan is not so good then. I can't use any kind of voice program while I play, which keeps me out of corps and fleets most of the time, and I don't want to wander around feeling useless all night.

Maybe when I get my skills up I'll be able to do some dps against NPCs while looking to give some assistance to others in my militia. I do like the idea of flying around jamming ships or using some kind of dedicated ecm ship and causing headaches. Maybe at some point in the future.

Again, thanks for all the help.

Oh, and sorry for giving people yet another chance to wallow in their neverending WoW angst.

I played EVE, DAoC and FFXI at the time WoW came out so I never played it either. I watched people play it, I just never got into it.

There are many players in eve who fly logisic ships primarily in pvp. Those dudes are loved virtually everywhere they go. Obviously this is a fleet oriented role. Big fleet fights in eve usually involve a great number of logi pilots and logi often wins the day. In many fights the side with more logi wins over much larger groups of enemies.

For big null sec alliances minmatar (scimitar) and amarr (guardian) and lately gallente (onerios) are the most used. Virtually no serious pvp entities in eve use the caldari basilisk for pvp.

If you are truly seroius about flying logistics you should also consider traiing for a carrier with triage.

Many of the large null alliances give away Logi ships, or at the very least replace ones lost in their fleets. With the buff to T1 logi, it's a bona fide career path now IMO. You could absolutely focus on Logi support from day one in Eve now.....as long as you have someone to rep.....it's still an MMO, and playing as support dictates being social.

Higher end Logi lends itself to PvE in the form of Incursions, where you can be the hero of the fleet, but will be held up to an ALL V skill standard or risk being flatly ignored by FC's.

Logi skills are just a couple individual skills trained on top of standard core skills. You will always need strong cap skills, high targeting (10 targets at once is standard), fast locking....for Logi or any PvP. Beyond that there is armor, shield and energy xfer modules to train up, all very quickly to V.
So Logi need not be much of a 'focus' until you get into T2 Logi Cruisers, where training times will slow down dramatically. With the buffs to T1 Logi, you can 'dabble' at it some to get a feel if you like it.

EDIT-- get your basic logi and cap skills to IV and take any of the T1 logi cruisers to FW. Any fleet will be more than happy to have you.

Oh, and sorry for giving people yet another chance to wallow in their neverending WoW angst.

Is there any particular reason you can't use voice while playing?

I ask because if you're only missing a headset or something, it's a worthwhile investment to get one as it greatly increases your gaming experience.

If for other reasons, my condolences, but logi probably isn't in your future unless you're one of those rare pilots who's quick at typing in hot situations while maintaining duties.

All you have to do is listen.

The voice chat is definitely a hurdle you want to take. Even just listening can achieve quite a bit. The lack of voice chat shouldn't keep you out of corps though, just join one that is a little more flexible on the matter.

Playing logistics (healers :p) goes hand in hand with being in a fleet and having some structure to the composition of that fleet. Playing logistics as a solo player will achieve nothing. If people can't communicate with you and don't know you they can't count on you to do your part when needed.

1: Yes.
2: You'll need to be in a fleet.
3: Logistics ships and their T1 equivalents.

Voice chat is mandatory for teamwork in a combat situation. Text is for miners. If you try to type stuff out it'll be too late by the time you manage to say anything. Not to mention that it's hard to watch a chat window and pay attention to playing at the same time.
