Constantly freezing up

My EVE client is constantly freezing up. It is worse since the last patch. It can happen at any moment, while doing any activity. I can be in warp, coming out of a gate, in normal flight, chatting with friends, it doesn't matter. It is making the game unplayable.

I am using an iMac.
OSX 10.6.8
Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3
Memory: 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5670

I have cable access to the internet.

I played EVE on this same computer six months ago and never had these problems.

I completely reinstalled the client with no beneficial affect.

At first I thought it had to do with voice chat. I would get a message saying: You have been logged out of voice chat.

I disabled voice chat and the freeze-ups are still occurring.

Help!

Hey there, if you're having client issues, please file a petition under the "technical" category.

Do you have the latest system updates installed?

Have you experienced this playing video in fullscreen? When the client freezes do you lose complete control of the system other than the mouse? (I'm aware of a pre-existing issue in Snow Leopard around these symptoms)

In the mean time, have you tried looking in your console?
from Applications - > Utilities -> Console

Filter on "OutputDebugStringA" and see if you have any exceptions at the time the client freezes. Let me or the GMs know about them :)

I uploaded the latest system updates. I also turned down some of the graphics and installed some fan software (the computer felt pretty hot).

It seemed like the problem was fixed, but tonight I started experiencing the same freeze up problems again. I filed a petition. The computer thermostat read 48 degrees celsius when the game froze.

I play in full screen. I lose control of almost everything. The mouse still moves around and some windows will open up, but I can't do anything with them. The in-game internet browser still works.

I tried the Console thing you mentioned, but couldn't figure out how to "Filter on "OutputDebugStringA" ".

I cleared my cache in the hope that it would help. This was mentioned on the "known issues" page of the EVE online site.

Now the game won't start at all. Sometimes it freezes on the character screen. Sometimes it freezes after I type my password and hit enter.

I can't get to my customer service ticket to report this problem because i can't get into the game at all.

Problem solved.

I upgraded my OS to Lion and now the game works perfectly.

Pretty much exact same issue, upgraded to Lion about an hour ago hoping the problem would be solved. No luck.

My game randomly freezes and stays frozen for about 10-20 seconds before quitting out and starting up at the log in screen. I can control the mouse at the time, not sure if I can control the camera. The freeze is evident by the little swirling circle on the top right of the window (usually the scanning window) starts to swirl and doesn't stop swirling until the game freezes. It's become unplayable as my ship keeps emergency warping in wormholes every 10 minutes. Might try a fresh install.

I was just having same problem on my new MacBook Pro 15 but it hasn't happened for awhile now. I had also lost sight of effects like beams, rocket flights and explosions. Each time, I noted that my laptop fan was spinning very fast - even with a cool pad under. Freezes would happen when multiple windows open or just getting to gate or station, last 20-30 secs then crash/log out with log in window soon appearing.

I reset my in game cache then set graphics to default - performance and crashes seemed to go away.

Don't know why, but out of the blue last night, all graphics came back on in middle of session.

Have upgraded RAM to see if that helps too

It's funny because I never had any of these problems with my 2004 IMac with outdated/unsupported graphics card though I did have the same problems with my old MacBook Pro, too when I first tried EVE.

Happens to me too, both in space and when docked, which makes even the market unplayable. No OutputDebugStringA anywhere, it just freezes and doesn't come back. Memory is not an issue, both times I had nearly two gigs of RAM completely free when the game froze.

I'm on Lion.

I went to write a petition, was just about to press submit and the damn thing froze again. Didn't even undock. Doesn't unfreeze at all. Console.app has nothing to say. Fans go wild but EVE is only using 33% CPU, not sure what it's doing.

I scaled the UI to 90% before this started happening, but I didn't spend any time playing with 100% so I can't tell if it's related.

And again. Sorry for the spam but I'm very frustrated right now. UNPLAYABLE even for a station warrior.

Sounds unlikely but the last two freezes happened just about right after I'd pressed backspace in a text field.......

Same issue here. I've seen this with a variety of graphics settings so I don't think that it's a particular set of settings that's causing the problem. In all the crashes I've seen, the display and audio freeze and keyboard input (including cmd-tab) isn't recognized. I am able to kill the client and regain control by SSHing in and doing a kill -KILL on the EVE client.

seeing this too - latest software. Was working perfectly on Monday and before but now freezes every so often - sometimes quickly in succession sometimes very long gaps between freezes

EVE Crucible introduced a new feature I have never seen in Eve before - total freeze of Eve client. First I saw it every time my wallet blinked from bounties in 0.0. Well, the freeze disappeared when i removed all wallet blink options. However, patch No2 brought it to a new level and now I get freeze just while traveling without any help from wallet. In 30 minutes my Eve client froze 3 times, once while jumping through gates. Imagine how that changes your play style in 0.0 and how playable the game becomes.

Specs: imac 21'', Mac OS X 10.6.8.

Same issue for me. Random lookups of client. Running Lion, iMac 27", 12 gb ram. Also happens on my iMac running snow leopard. Seems to be a connectivity issue. I have a solid cable connection.

Constant freezing now. Can't go more than two minutes without freezing up. It got worse after today's patch.

Well, I just resubscribed after a several month break, all excited to see all the new stuff and it was awesome...for a few minutes, until it locked up. I had to force close it and then I tried it again and I got to undock this time. Ooh, pretty nebulae...until it locked up again.

Also, I just recently switched to a Mac. Has performance always been this bad on the Mac client?

Six months ago my Mac gave me no problems at all.

I took a break from EVE and returned a month ago. I've been plagued with problems since. Managed to play, but couldn't do everything I wanted to due to the risk of locking up.

Unplayable today.

See now my experience has been exactly opposite. 6 months ago mine crash constantly, not it is rare I get a lockup or crash.

That being said the Mac client sucks and CCP should be ashamed of themselves, but it is what we are dealt, so we play the game the best we can.
