So... what to do?

I actually played EVE years ago with a different account for about 4-5 months and kinda liked it. Stopped playing though after the corp me and a few friends had made got "metagamed" and Wardec'd and basically could not play due to not having the right skills and money to repel the attack.

So here I start with a new character and hopefully fresh prespective but am unsure how to proceed. I have heard of EVE University and am thinking about trying that out but don't even know how to contact them.. I'm that noob again it seems :)

This a good idea or not? Any suggestions to help me get started?

Hrm... ok then.

Was kinda hoping for a little help not just a link to reams of data that I have no idea how to go through since I really have no clue what it all MEANS.

Oh well... guess I'll just go finish up these tutorial missions and see what happenes then.

If you want to join EVE University, check out their corporation or alliance info in game. They also have a web site: http://www.eveuniversity.org/

As far as learning game mechanics goes, start with the New Players 101 Guide. When it comes to looking for something interesting to do, you really can't go wrong with St Mio's What to do in EVE Online chart!

Hope this helps!

Hello Scythe XL,

Welcome back! Besides Mara Rinn's excellent advice, I would also recommend having a look at the ISK Guide. It is a comprehensive knowledge base for EVE Online, covering nearly all aspects of the game. You can either download it in PDF format for free or order a physical copy from the EVE Store.

What did you most enjoy doing in EVE when you played it last? And what did you hear about that sparked your interest but you never got the chance to try?

I know I'm going to get laughed at for this but here goes...

When I first played EVE I wanted to be a hauler. Started off playing the market a bit with minor items and making a little cash here and there and was kinda fun but wanted to get good enough to hire myself out for loads.

Then I found out about how impossible it was to secure a load since people either scam, don't need your help, or just like blowing you up for the laughs. PvP is fine to me... I just like it having meaning beyond "hey, wouldn't it be funny if we just blew up that fragile transport for fun?"....

/shrug

You asked...

I've been lurking the forums for years watching all the drama going on with nul sec and find it interesting. Hoping someday to be able to be a part of that but not having any experience or connections there I am doubting that will happen either... but we'll see.

No ones going to laugh at you (well stupid people might, but they are stupid so who cares).

I know exactly how you feel, I came into the game wanting to be a Bounty hunter, but just take one look at the bounty system and realize it is utterly broken it might as well not even be in the game (game would be better off without such a broken and abused system).

Now that I can't be a bounty hunter I just do a little pi ...hauling is more work then profit so no, and yeah idiots go after new player in frigs and industrial ships because they:
1. don't have the skill to go after someone worthwhile to fight
and
2. are weakhearted/minded/souled so they fight something that is weaker and has no chance of retaliation because they are just as afraid of being pwned like we are.

Other then that there is only mission running (extremely boring when you do the same horrid missions over and over again), Mining (which basically equates to losing 15+ million isk every time you fall asleep at your mining barge because its so freaking boring only millions of bots do it.) After all of that, the only thing left is to get owned in low sec and null sec because new players (or people who just recently began in the past few years) don't have the skills or the ability, or the Know How to go into low or null and make it worth their while.

P.S. Doing PI in Highsec takes a month to make any money from, not worth it.

The game is broken, it would be better off to not play then to even think that it is playable. Hell they tricked me into resubbing then kicked me while I was down and gave everyone else a better offer (a month for 5.95 where I had to pay double) just so I could realize there is still nothing to do in the game except get blown up and send iceland and CCP more of your real money, since that's the only thing they care about.

That's the hard truth, sorry for anyone who can't accept it or doesn't like the ruling.

& to the corrupt CSM and goons, why don't you go play FlyFF where you goons belong, bunch of lowlife clowns. Lucky I am not running stuff because I'd simply ban all the goons outright and then laugh in their face.
I'd also go after botting in all forms and ban anyone involved and use the law on my side to go after any group selling the bots. CCP doesn't do that because they don't care about their game, they only care about the money stream to iceland.

So anyway, scythe, it would be better to spend your hard earned money on a new game (Like BF3 if your pc can handle it or skyrim in a few weeks) than to just send it to CCP, because it really is not being used efficiently over there, they are practically wiping their ass with it.

Actually, trading is a very viable profession, many people make lots of money from it. The only issue is that you are competing against more experienced players who can move larger amounts at once due to increased skills and larger ships. Don't let that stop you though, there's still profit to be had, even if it doesn't make you rich fast.

And ignore the the raging poster, Eve is as fun as you make it. If you decide to have fun and do stuff, it'll be fun, if you decide to start crying because the big bad pirate blew you up, Eve might not be for you. Yes, you might die now and then, but it's part of Eve, you either learn to get over it and not get upset or you ragequit.

Also, since I don't think anyone has posted this yet, here's a nice overview of what there is to do in Eve. It is a fairly comprehensive (though not detailed) list of the different things to do in Eve.

I'm not raging, there are legitimate problems with the foundation and functions. You apparently didn't even read what I posted, otherwise you would agree that the bounty system is broken and anyone that comes here to be a bounty hunter pretty much cannot.

Also, it takes about at least a year but generally 3 years of skill training in what you want to do to be worthwhile in anything at all, so that makes the 20 dollar initial payment+the monthly sub, very expensive to 'wait' to play the game. Not to mention that this game is slanted against solo players. I did forget to mention WH space but that isn't something a lone person can do by themselves for a long term period.

The Ships aren't important, even the crappy player base within isn't important, it's the fact that the game itself is broken. This isn't raging, or crying, it's a legitimate complaint.

You go try to be a bounty hunter mxzf (which isn't even a name-- probably a goon bot alt) try to get the person in the first of the list, oh you can't, couldn't if you tried.

For some people that want to like this game, Want it to be fun, it just ISN'T because of Fundamental Flaws that refuse to be corrected or even addressed. Yeah, I don't like it how it is because I can see how much BETTER it can be. It's like when chip foose looks at a car, the only thing he can see are the flaws or things that can be made better or corrected.

Hopefully you have a better ride than I did Scythe, just beware what you get into because anyone who you meet in this game can pretty much screw you over if you let your guard down.

I would suggest trying some of the career agents out first just to get back into the swing of things.

Career Agents info.

Once you have an idea of what sort of path you want to progress down, then start the usual hunt for a corp. Either through the forum or ingame from the Corp icon & recruitment tab.

And remember to mix things up. By doing just one thing, you'll be liable to burn yourself out & just get bored. Eve is a Sandbox so there's no right or wrong - only optimal. There's no end game so Go out, have fun, interact with others, mine, blow stuff up, do whatever rocks your boat.

No-where is safe in Eve & Nothing lasts forever - get used to that & the game becomes a game & will stop feeling like a second job Cool

**edited bit**

Don't be put off by people saying "You need 'X' amount of SP to be able to do that" - alot can be achieved by thinking "Outside the box". Yes, to be able to fly certain ships, you need the skills to fly them properly, but if you're smart & know your limits, anything is possible.

Whatever you do, I strongly recommend joining a player corp immediately. As enticing as the claims of "small but close-knit" corps can be, anyone with under 50 members is unlikely to have too many other people online at any one time.

I feel like EVE University would be a great option for you as they're a large, established corp with a willingness and ability to support you in learning what you want to do and how to do it. Be sure to check out their class library on their website (linked above) -- it's changed my EVE life.

As for dreams of null sec - just do it. There are plenty of viable nullsec groups that will take you with as few as 8 mil skillpoints, which doesn't take very long with +3 implants. Just be very careful about investigating the politics and structure of the group you might join.

I was looking for that kind of thing when I started too! To me EVE seemed like the MMO spiritual successor to Elite.

Hang around the recruitment forum, or check out the corp info for null sec corps you're interested in — many of them specify how to go about being recruited.

Alternately join in RvB. You might find some folks in there who have links to nullsec recruiters!

In EVE, much as in life, waiting for the awesome to happen is the best way to make sure it never will.

You have to get out there and make it happen.

Seems I had quite the bank of skill points in learning skills and spent quite awhile assigning them last night. My char (this is Scythe btw) has about 9 mil SP and I am flying a mission fit Raven atm. Have gone back to my career trainers to try and relearn the game before leaping back into my solo lvl 3 missions I used to do.

Wish I could have used the trial time on this account though... 5 days is not enough time for me to make "the decision" about playing EVE... Oh well we will see how I feel then.. Maybe get a month sub.

I am definately going to contact EVE University once I feel confident enough to not look like a total idiot with 9 mil SP and no clue... Lol

Good luck mate

And with 9mill SP's , I'm pretty sure that you'll find something entertaining to do. Make sure that getting into a player run corp is your top priority, you will learn a lot from other players and may find a career path that suits you.

So you apparently can't spare 7 days to train for this and then go out and attack the griefers that are attacking you? Or go on a roam in lowsec looking for a fight?

Your argument is is (from what I can tell) that you want Eve to be a game that you can "win". The only way to get near to that is for you to think outside the box, get up and do something.

Spend your entire time saying "I can't do anything untill I have the skills" and you really wont do anything, and your Eve will be as boring and broken as you say it is.

So.. as a returning player doing the tutorials I have a few remarks and suggestions.

1)Make sure the tutorials send you to the correct racial starting area. I'm Caldari and it sent me to the Minmater trainers. This made doing some of the... difficult at the least.

2)Remove the size restrictions from the accel gates for the majority of missions. There is no reason why a returning player should not be able to use his old toys to learn the new systems.

3)Requiring specific skills (like Minmater Frigate 2) to get to next part of tutorial is annoying and slows down the learning process... never mind I have no interest in flying them...

Other than that I have found the tutorials (that I am able to complete... still gotta wait an hour now for a skill just so I can fly a ship to blow it up.. sigh) fairly good and rather informative. I would suggest getting the rest of the tutorials voiced over as well, adds to immersion.
