Overheating Laptop

I've been playing EVE on this laptop that I bought for just about 4-5 months now, and up to a couple weeks ago I had no problems running 3 clients on it.

Recently I've been having a lot of overheating issues even when I have it propped up on my desk, and if I have an external fan helping to cool it. Sensors are telling me that my CPU approaches 92 C pretty much every night now (apparently my GPU also gets to a whopping 134 C, but I have a feeling that's just because of the APU.)

I just wanted to post to see if anyone else has issues with overheating on a laptop when multi-boxing.

Computer stats:
AMD A10-4600M quad ~2.3GHz
8GB RAM
AMD Radeon 7660G + 7600M APU

NOTE: This is over 3 clients in a nullsec system all running at lowest graphics options.

If the internal hardware reports a high temperature, maybe a fan or fan duct is propped up. I don't know why EVE clients should be the culprit other than contributing to high system load.

APUs often get high temperature if you have a cpu and gpu on the same die. I would clean it properly and update my drivers atleast

I just did some tests and it seems just one client caused the laptop to go to 94 C before I shut it off. The laptop cooled down by twenty degrees within a couple minutes, so it's definitely EVE that's causing the issue.

I'm going to shut off the APU and see if that makes the difference. Also what do you mean by "fan propped up"? I wouldn't think that raising the heat sink by a couple centimetres would make any difference.

In a week or two I'm going to crack it open and see if the thermal paste is alright if I can't figure out what's causing it right now.

EDIT: APU is not the problem.

I just mean if a fan has alot of dust on it, it might not provide enough airflow. The same applies to any fan ducts of course.

The heatsink should stay where it is sinc it relies on conducting. It effectively increases the surface area of the object you're cooling.

Alright. The APU isn't the problem so the thermal paste might have dried up for some reason. Thanks for your input o7

Netrwork Engineer here.

If your laptop is running at 100C it has serious problems or was never designed for what your using it for.

Your computer should not run anything hotter then 83c, at 93c your ATi GPU should automatically underclock until it hits 69c (stock settings), that piece of information alone tells me 100% for a fact that its not eve that's causing the problem.

What program are you using to measure internal temperatures?
Have you altered any settings in the BIOS or tweaked any settings, like core clock speeds/RAM settings?
ARE you using your laptop in your bed?
does the Heat exhaust have a good 2 feet clearance from any object like a wall, a pillow a cover, a pet? being rested on something soft like a couch or on top of your bed/pillow or covers?

My favorite gaming laptop, which im using right now is a:

HP DV6Z

A83550MX 7690M+6620G
8 gigs ram blah blah you know the drill

First of all, all laptops need to have the fans and vents cleaned every 4.5 months to 8 months, no exceptions.

That might be the cure to your delema but first:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7660G.69830.0.html
point out the exact make and model of laptop that you have so we can have a better understanding of the Animal type that were working with here.

P.S.
Don't listen to every person who calls themselves an engineer, please Just don't, because im the fairy godmother of subnet IP routing, (im sure you believe that)
To be honest, I think a BIOS update made the temperature sensors kind of...

I haven't overclocked or changed any speeds within the computer. I used CPU-Z, GPU-Z, as well as coretemp.
I'm using the laptop on a desk, and I have it propped up.
Nothing next to the exhaust.

I'm on an Acer Aspire V3-551G (don't make fun. It was on sale.)

I bought it just a couple months ago so cleaning it shouldn't be the issue.

eve is not the problem.

eve is just putting load on your cpu and gpu.

you problem is your cpu gpu cooling is not cutting it.

if you load any game x3 clients a similar result will occour.

laptops are like hovers. get some canned air and clear out all the fan vents.

This. Also if you have an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, try turning your laptop upside down so the fans and vents don't end up having the hot air recirculated back into the space. The heat there will simply convect back into the laptop and ****** any cooling efforts.

I mine so you can have the fuel to run your POS.

Have you thanked a miner today?

I had the same thing happen. The game used to play fine then my laptop started running hot out of the blue. I found a download called game booster and it now it runs a lot cooler when I launch eve using it. May work for you.

I've used gamebooster before, however I haven't had it running while I play EVE. I guess I should try that out.

CCP increased the graphics, this might be something your laptop cannot handle.

I guess you should stick to two clients, or buy a stronger comp.

I burned 3 laptops so far gaming by burning i mean it thermal paste/fans/what ever died on me

All of them "gaming" laptops ie they can run every game you can trow at em..but cooling on another hand...

Note: while they are useless to me my gf don't have issues using em..i think even i can run 2 clients on low settings not because FPS but lapy will shut it self down to "prevent dmg"..lol.

Edit:but i give em one year before they start failing..in your case it might be something else.

Thankfully I have 4 years of warranty so if the thermal past dries up or the fans break I get get it fixed with no cost to me. I'm a little confused because I was able to run 3 clients perfectly fine before around Christmas time, however just about the beginning of January I started having problems.
