Any other Norwegians with payment issues? (EvE = illegal foreign gambling now according to bank/gov)

My usual subscription got cancelled out of the blue, which I have had running since 2007, so naturally it was a WTF moment.

Contact CCP, they say bank decline it.

I contact bank, they say "The Norwegian government does not allow payment to foreign gambling/online gaming with credit cards."

I tried for 45 minutes explaining EvE has nothing to do with gambling. They suggest I talk to CCP again if any other Norwegians have contacted them regarding it.

Figured I'd throw this out on the forums too to see if there are any?

Currently using my UK card, but not exactly ideal.

Sounds like lot of nationalistic, protectionist, isolation going on.

Weird. Weird. And kinda scary.

This is the first thing that popped to my mind... Apparantly Norway has been getting flak due to Protectionism.

Should I spill something on mine to make it look different?

After all, google EVE and you wlil see pages with "game", "money" in their content... all that oil and the government dun want to let you spend it on other countries. Pretty messed up indeed, same as Finland trying to block cc payments to online gambling companies.

Technically, you are gambling with the equivalence of real life money every time you undock. It is just that you can never cash out more than $14.95 in free game time a month.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

OK, this is just getting embarrasing.

The first 5 responses to this thread had a lot of red in the avatar pictures... it really confused my simple brain. :(

Can't say I've heard of this before, but it's something that could really only be cleared up with the bank itself if they're blocking payment types that they could otherwise allow. What?

Maybe they kept seeing "risk vs reward" related with Eve and assumed it must be gambling related? What?

There was a post last week by a guy whose credit card company denied payment to CCP because the type of charge kept changing. One month it was "online book seller" the next it was "video game". I'll try and dig it up.

Re international gambling; its a menace, just sucks tax revenue out of the local economy for no good reason. The state is going to have to go all in on online gambling itself to compete, or send assassins abroad. The scary thing is that this movement could give the world courts some teeth, and an issue to congeal around.

But to get back OT let me look for that post...

How nice of governments and politicians.

First they royally screw us common folks off with their oh-so-great globalization with some "little" side effects like lowering workers wage, killing local industry to import toxic materials low cost stuff from eastern countries and so on.

Then, when globalization would help common folks they forbid us to reap the advantages. Sounds good! X

You might be able to get around this by purchasing time codes, depending on where the site is located it may not register as the same thing.
