With the price of PLEX in China at roughly a billion ISK I wonder if they have significantly less ALTs per character?

Now just don't ask me what that has to do with the price of tea in China Lol

To be clear, the 500k number includes both our TQ and Serenity (Chinese) servers, but only includes subscribing EVE Online accounts, not Dust accounts.

Really, did you stop counting dusties in wardecs finally?

Well, the fact that all these ~500K players are playing on the same sever is awesome. We hate, love, kill, scam each other every day, but at the end of the day we are like a big family, something that you can never feel in any other mmo. Truly impressive!

In EVE the players are the content. Players on Serenity are meaningless to me. I want to know how many subs are on TQ as a yardstick to know how much content is being generated for me Blink

Not to downplay the achievement or anything but,

I suspect it's a testimate to how well changing Chinese partners has worked for them. Didn't the 450k mark come with a comment about how the change in partnership has resulted in more people playing in China?

It sounds like serenity is blowing up.

It suspect TQ didn't see a big jump and is still sitting around 350k, and it's Serenity that's seeing the boom and has gone from a little under 100k a few months ago to almost 150k now.

They don't have retribution yet do they?

Serenity will be the reason that EVE hits a million combined subs.

I think you guys should provide the numbers for both worlds if you're going to give the total.
You put a lot of emphasis on the "one world, one server" stuff, and I think it's only fair that you not lump us all together. It gives the wrong impression, and isn't really faithful to the spirit of EVE.

PS: Use the added revenue to get more devs to work on EVE please. Like say on expanding avatars so we can leave our ships. :)

"ah, yes if you take the weekly average then it should be comparable

So as of 21st february taken from http://eve-offline.net/
TQ weekly avg : ~36.800
SR weekly avg : ~7.800

so serenity is actually only about 17.5% of the whole population, or about 87.5K subscribers, this would put TQ at 412.500 subs"

You can probably run a ballpark figure for TQ, based on the PCU avg of TQ vs Serenity (since those 500K reflects the numbers that are currently subscribed).
It should correlate closely to the actual per server split which CCP isn't disclosing atm.

actually you cant, because TQ is spread over basicly the whole world (lots of timezones) while serenety is only spread over 2 (or 3?) timezones in china, so their subscription to PCU ratio is way different to TQ.

Not when you average it over 24h or even weekly/monthly.
You're after a reasonable ballpark figure, not accuracy to 3 decimal places.

I will tell Ishtanchuk that you're using her method to estimate individual server population from global subscriptions and weekly average PCU data. Cool

But then we still aren't at a point where i would bother mi contacts in the PROC so they try to get Tian City subscription data for Serenity. They still see me as a mostly harmless EVE freak...Lol

Unless player behaviour has drastically changed for no apparent reason, the activity numbers wouldn't really support that suspicion.

If that were the case, chinese players have suddenly chosen not to play any more even though they're buying tons of accounts, and TQ players are suddenly playing a whole lot more without any corresponding increase in number of active accounts. Neither makes sense given how people have historically approached the game.

My anecdotal experience is that quite a few old corpies have returned to EVE over the last few weeks.

I should clarify this again.

I"m not saying TQ hasn't gone up, I'm saying that Serenity is going up more.

Tiancity is a bigger partner then the previous guys are, and were in part chosen because they reach a larger market.

A part of the reason for the change was to get more people in china playing, Tiancity is doing that for CCP.

From what I've heard, from people who have access to Serenity, the server is throttled. More subscribers may not mean a higher PCU, because the server may not allow for more.

Obviously I'm just speculating, and like I said, I'm not trying to downplay the achievment.

I'm only speculating that Serenity would be the server to get the credit. It was kind of the point in getting Tiancity as a partner.

Do we have a chart for TQ's server activity from the month of december to now?
