Hi there! It was me you aggressed.

You gained the following three timers:

1. Limited Engagement

As soon as you aggress a legal target, you gain a limited engagement timer. This can also be created by accepting a duel request. It essentially just gives you 5 mins to extend the engagement with the target and allows you to shoot freely without goign suspect or criminal yourself.

2. Weapons Timer

Any aggressive action you take will earn you a weapons timer of 1 minute. This timer will prevent you from docking, jumping (except WHs), ejecting, or switching ships. Performing logistics that would generate any timer for you will also earn a weapons timer (I.E. inheriting one for remote repairing someone else)

3. Log-off Timer

Any aggressive action done to you or by you will generate a 15 minute timer that will prevent you from logging off safely in space. If you have to log off in space, you always want to make sure this goes away first or you may find yourself dead. An exception might be logging off in a POS.

I hope you enjoyed the little encounter. I wouldn't have killed you due to your age, but I do like to send newbs scurrying when they aggress. The bounty you pointed out is because I have a tendency to **** people off.

Fly safe, and enjoy a nice little isk bonus!

Tah'ris

All these silly rules. I love the minimalism of nullsec.

No special rules, no silly sec loss, no worrying. Just shoot and the worst that can happen is you can't jump for a bit.

Heh, I like OP's attitude. Shoot first, ask questions later :)

Nah, but seriously it is way better to lose few cheap ships and learn something that will benefit you for the rest of your Eve life than just be another tumbleweed that never tries new things because it may result in their pixels getting exploded.

OP, whatever you decide to be your thing in Eve don't ever let other people tell you are playing Eve wrong. You may be wrong at fittings, you may use not proper ships to do your things and on those matter you should seek advice and take critique and help with gratitude. But being miner, mission runner, wardec merc or gate camper or nullsec explorer is your choice and if it gives you fun you want just do it no matter what people say.

I tell you a secret about Eve, OP:
Most of us are terrible at this game. Don't let the crazy amounts of skillpoints or shiny faction ships fool you: If you know about those aggro timers and if you learn everything you can about tracking/transversals, scram ranges and overheat mechanics, you will already be better than 90% of the other players.

edit: flying sober is helpful, too.Blink

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

This is just wrong.
You did just pvp in the way pvp is ment to be played in this game, and survived to tell the tale after the fight was lost.

Secondly you show more understanding of the game mechanism than most senior players in here.

Wow, thanks for all the great feedback and advice. The timers make sense now, I was just under slightly different assumptions about one of them.

Also, it seems this game has plenty of friendly players willing to help out a noob (knock on wood), and even one who sends money for being attacked! I salute you all.

Oh, my saying I'm no PvP'er was my way of simply saying that I'm no professional when it comes to that, being a noob and all. But I certainly want to explore all aspects, including that.

Cheers.

Thanks OP, this topic made me smile! GD needed a positive story and you delivered. Now that you know about the normal PVP flags, good luck using them in you tactics. It goes without saying that anyone that attacks you, legally or not, gains the same timers. If you do not agress back, you're in a situation where you can jump gates... but your attacker can't. Good luck! Cool

Congratulations on breaking the ice in PvP, the first step is always the hardest and definitely the most important. Seeking the answers will definitely help you out more than getting frustrated and remaining confused, so props on that as well.

Your positive attitude combined with your willingness to seek answers and be a little dangerous is what will make you a fantastic pilot, keep it up. Also yes, most of us suck at this game, so trying to learn what you can learn will make you significantly better than most other players.

Good luck out there in space and if you ever want some PvP practice you can always find me in space and duel, I'm not the greatest PvPer out there but we all have lessons we can share.

I find this is a better metaphor:

Highsec is like a hunting preserve. Yeah, there's game, but there's no hunt and you have to pay fees when you're done.

Lowsec is like the woods around a city. You run into the occasional wild animal but need a licence and it isn't free.

Nullsec is like the true wilderness. No rules, and you best be able to hunt, because you aren't on top of the foodchain anymore.

"Not understanding" is pretty much the definition of 'n00b.' But by even trying, and then seeking answers to those things that aren't understood? LIGHT YEARS beyond those who never try at all. Many of whom have been playing for years.

Crapping on a n00b who demonstrates such admirable characteristics, however? Déclassé.Evil
