Lower Haight is the cool part now that Upper Haight (aka Haight-Ashbury) is a gentrified Disneyland.

I can go there, now. Back then, there were... Legal issues... that might stem from visiting teh nightborhood. Security clearances to consider, yanno?

And yeah, I heard that Haight-Ashbury had gone all 'Times Square.' Shame, really. Is the Castro still happening?

Place may have survived if they had Lucy Lawless or even a really bad look-a-like instead of the trailer park couple that ran it. I might have even gone there, for the swords of course.

Have you tried witbiers? Heavy on the wheat and oat content. Blue Moon is a popular brand, frequently served with a slice of orange. My wife, who is of a similar mind as you, finds witbiers to be quite nice.

edit:
Also: Hoegaarden Original White Ale.

Microbrews are definitely the way to go in the U.S. The problem is they're kind of expensive. Not every working man needing a beer to take his mind off of his troubles can afford them.

Well, yes. Hence the lawsuit - folks want their opiate at full strength.

i'm not sure if i have. i've tried many and liked very few. it doesn't help i'm terrible with beer "types." can't tell the difference between most kinds. i do know i don't like anything that's a "pale" i think. just wretched sharp aftertaste thing going on with those.

Ah! Hopps. You appear to not be a fan. Blink

Try the witbiers then. Not hopped, or if so, very lightly so. They're distinctive in that they're somewhat cloudy and more effervescent. Many are flavored with spices such as coriander or citrus. Blue Moon isn't the very best, but it's commonaly available and a decent example. If you like it, you've got a basis from which to start.

Disneyfied and boring as all get out now.

Sad really.

Best beer billboard in years I saw last year for Newcastle that read

That's the Hops.

Takes some getting used to if not used to it.

FYI: The Toronado has some 5-8 yo Skaaldis Noel 4 packs sometimes. YUM! (But only at Xmas time as it's definitely Christmas-spiced).

But that's just one example of their collection.

Yeah.
Our local brewers also run seasonal beers and ales - sometimes you can find them off-season.

I'm particularly fond of a very heavily-hopped (Eurydia would not approve! Blink ) IPA called Aprihops. Comes out only in March & April (may be avaialble later, usually sells out by the end of May). I buy cases of it, has a very slight under-hint of apricot (whole fruit used in the mash). Sharp (and yes - bitter) with a very coy hint of sweet.

Lol

(Yes, it is available in your area, in season)

I dont always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer this.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?
