NPC School Station skillbooks prices??

Greetings fellow capsuleers,

I have a question about the prices for the skillbooks available at the NPC schools.

I understood that if a certain amount of a specific skillbook, i.e. Electronics Upgrades, was purchased at a specific station, i.e. Ammold V - Republic Military School, the price of the skillbook in that station might rise above the standard 90,000 ISK price. The increase in price dependent on how many skillbooks were purchased.

But I'm looking at the skillbook prices today and as far as I can tell, ALL the prices for ALL the skillbooks across EVE have climbed above their standard level.

I'm wondering how that could be? Did some very large Corp or Alliance go out and make large skillbook purchases at every single station that sells them?

Thanks,

It is possible that some players buy these to trade with them at popular market hubs. It allows them to make a small profit when they can sell it to players who enjoy the convenience of having it all in one place. Others will buy them for stocking them in 0.0- and WH-space when they need it.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Someone's been stocking up to sell them at a mark-up in a trade hub.

I do it myself from time to time, and buy books at trade hubs too. Convenience is big business!

Thank you Whitehound and Skorpynekomimi,

Someone must be stocking up for some reason as you say.

But I understood that skillbook purchase made in one station might raise the price in that specific station.

Would someone hit EVERY single station selling skillbooks in EVE, and make large purchases of EVERY single skillbook in EACH station?

Seems like the numbers are just too large for someone to do that.

Or am I wrong in believing that skillbook purchases in one station only affect the price in that station? Would large purchases of skillbooks in Caldari space have an effect in Minmatar or Gallente space?

Or someone with a fat wallet(*) placed a region-wide buy order at the wrong price.

Turrets syndrome - is that where you just have to go out and shoot all the things?

To be honest, I do not know. Why bother about the price for stuff that is being seeded by the game? Maybe somebody is trying to screw with it. Maybe somebody ganked an NPC hauler full of skill books - or what is in all them haulers that one can see undocking from NPC stations? Shocked

the posters above don't seem to addressed this point. Not all of the skillbooks seem to be affected but many do. I tried some small scale tests on Tranq. and just buying one skillbook at 900k immediately sent the price up by 10k, which, IIRC is not normal when there are 100k for sale by an NPC. It's not that simple though, buy another skillbook and the price just increases by a small amount at other times.

There is definately something new going on here, just looking at price history on some skillbooks shows they are hardly ever sold but they are well above the NPC price.

Other skillbooks seem to be unaffected.

While I personally think that skillbooks should be a bit higher priced as they are a major isk sink, this seems to predominantly effect the lower end of the price range and thus have more effect on newer players.

They're full of NPC trade goods (pax amarria, dirt, reports etc). They used to occasionally drop old pos fuel parts the last time I popped some (years ago) that were worthwhile for new players to make some isk off - but they got the nerf bat.
If you want to pop some to see what they're dropping these days, just make sure they're not the same corp as the station you hit them at or the station guns get rather upset at you. Lol

Get them at the station they warp to, not the one they undock from.
If they are going to the same corp as the one they are leaving, don't shoot them.
If they are CONCORD station ships, don't shoot them.
I've done it for fun using an armed industrial to pop the ships and then scoop up the cargo. Not worth much usually though.

I do not know if Crimewatch 2.0 has any effect on doing this, so be careful.

The apparent lack of announcement about this issue is pretty disappointing.

It's obvious they removed the peg on NPC skillbook prices and now we have to guess if and when a new higher peg will emerge/soften.

Consider that when you join GoonWaffe you're given enough books to keep you busy training for many months.
I think you can go like 6 months just training the books newbies get for free.

That's a lot of books being purchased.

Somebody stole TEST's stash of Newbro Skillbooks. It's the time of restocking!

Hope they enjoyed the 2b worth of skillbooks, that never left the station...

I have been buying them all...then burning them.

Seriously I have noticed this too, but only for books that sell for less than 10 million.
